Seems a quality candidate has entered the race. Anyone know much about the newcomer Brett McMasters ? Seems like a good dude. He has my vote.

I know Jason is a good ole boy, and in LP that's almost impossible to beat.
(Not a knock or endorsement on Ard, just the way it is)

Whats the story on this guy. Never heard of him, but id like to see a viable alternate to Ard.
The reason these sheriffs get entrenched is because they can pretty much campaign their whole term with the public appearances, toy drives, loan out the big tent for events, doing favors for people, etc. They get to make a speech on the news everytime there's a big drug bust but nowhere to be seen when deputies are giving out cupcakes with secret ingredients at schools.
Then they have several hundred families that have someone employed by the sheriff's office in some fashion, so nobody wants to rock the boat and bring in a new guy that would make a bunch of changes. The whole department is campaigning for the sheriff to keep his job so nobody in the department wants to run or they'd get blackballed. And an outsider wouldnt have the local connections and the law enforcement background needed to run.

I believe Brett is a former Green Beret. That's all I know about him other than his best friend isn't in jail for life for incredibly disturbing sexual acts involving minors.

Citizens of Livingston Parish,
I want to take this time to share with you all a little about myself, as I am running for Livingston Parish Sheriff in October of 2023. I was born and raised in Walker, Louisiana. My parents are Rick and Martha McMasters. I am the youngest sibling of 3. I have 3 children,
Grant (22), Carson (17) and Kaitie (14). I attended and graduated Walker High School in 1999. After graduation, I went to work for my father at his plumbing company. During my time there, I was working on a job when I heard the twin towers were attacked by terrorists.
Upon hearing this, I immediately went to the nearest recruiting station to enlist in the United States Army as a Calvary Scout. During my time in the military, I served in a multitude of leadership positions: Senior Scout Driver, Senior Scout Gunner, Section Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant. After my 16 month tour in Iraq, I came home and submitted my packet to try out for the elite US Army Special Forces. Out of 436 candidates, I, along with 63 others, were selected to continue Special Forces training at Fort Bragg, NC. Upon completion of training and earning my Green Beret, I was assigned to 5th Special Forces Group on an Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA), which is a 12 man team consisting of operators with individual and team skill sets. My position and responsibility on the team included operating, repairing, and employing all weapons, both US and Foreign made. I was also the senior trainer and lead instructor for my ODA, and lead Sniper for the Company. I trained Foreign Internal Defense, law enforcement, and guerrillas in combat tactics, rule of law, establishing rapport with their communities, and police patrolling. We also trained numerous US law enforcement entities at our compound on how to operate in the streets of their cities employing weapons, tactics, and interaction with citizens.
Halfway through my time while deployed, the mission changed from conducting daily combat missions to stabilizing the country. This would require creating local, district, provincial police and SWAT teams, identify and select individuals for leadership positions, and work side by side with some of the best law enforcement officers in the United States. This included the FBI, DEA, Border Police, retired Sheriffs, and other law enforcement entities. Our task was to train farmers, bakers, butchers and school teachers law enforcement techniques and tactics to protect their areas of responsibility. We would also go out on daily patrols, night missions, and raids to help eliminate terrorist threats in their region, while also teaching these men how important it was to police and protect their areas from crime and terrorism.
After my time in Special Forces, I came back home to Walker, Louisiana to live in the great Parish I was raised in. I had the urge to continue to serve and share the knowledge and experience I obtained in Special Forces with local leadership and law enforcement. I joined the Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office, where I served as a Uniform Patrol deputy. I came at a fortunate time to help out, but an unfortunate time for the Parish when the flood of 2016 hit. Myself and my shift, along with the rest of the Department were tasked with conducting rescues all over the Parish. It was heartbreaking, but awesome to see a Parish come together.
I decided to part ways with the Sheriffs Office to focus on my company, Precision Instincts Group, which specializes in the training of law enforcement and SWAT officers on building entry, hostage situations, marksmanship, active shooter and threat vulnerability assessments of schools across the state. I was asked by the Louisiana Tactical Police Officers Association to run and teach a Sniper workshop for Louisiana SWAT officers at their annual SWAT competition. That’s when I knew, I enjoyed being around the men who protect our way of life and where we live.
I volunteered to run for Livingston Parish Sheriff, because I know I can make a difference. This Parish is broken and trust is lost in the one organization that is sworn to protect us. I have the experience needed to train, mentor, guide and lead the men and women of the Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office, and it’s time to heal the deep wounds of this Parish and it’s people. Now, I’m asking Livingston Parish to trust me, and I know in order to do that, I have to prove myself to you all, the voters. Trust is earned, not given. But, it’s time to go in a new direction. One where the slate is clean, transparency is a must, and to elect someone who works for the people that decide who is in charge. I ask for your vote as the new Livingston Parish Sheriff in October to lead this Parish. Time for the Parish to start walking tall again. Thank you for your consideration. My dad is a retired LPSO. Sheriff's elections have been rigged since Odom in LP.

Jason is in panic mode. Brett will win.
By a lot….

McMasters clearly doesn't have the budget, but his leaflet left at my house says a lot more for him as sheriff than all of signs the Ards have posted in Denham.
I hope people are not influenced by all the eyewash and think about the past performance and qualifications of the individual.

From what I hear, people's concern with Brett is the limited amount of LE experience and the concern with Ard is the scandals. I

Every once in awhile things need to change to shake things up good or bad.
Huge black spot to Ard is he had a deputy, who committed sex acts with minors that was convicted.
Huge disadvantage for the other guy is lack of advertising budget to get his platform out.

Another 4 years of the ard reign. But this is the closest anyone’s come.

When you really get down to it you don't realize how many people are directly connected to the Sheriff's office and how many relatives the Sheriff has. Well over 100 that Ard won by.
