Sitting inside and heard a loud pop then crackling noises. Looked over the the 2 story window that is in front of our staircase and it was shattered completely. Started as web and now chunks are falling off the exterior portion of window. Don’t think the inside panes are shattered but too scared to get right up to the window bc I don’t want to get shredded.

Is this something that can happen due to the heat? At first I thought there might have been a gunshot but I think that was the sound of the window popping and shattering.

Anyone cutting grass nearby? That’s usually the culprit.

If the glass is really hot and you put cold water on it then yes it will shatter. The risk increases if there is already a nick or a crack in it. I've never heard of one randomly bursting from just heat. It can be a contributing factor but not the main culprit.

Is your house on a slab or piers and beams? It may have already been a bind due to your house settling.

Did the glass initially fall into the house or outside? If it fell outward then it probably wasn't broken from the outside.

North Texas clay/house settling. Do you water properly around your foundation?
