Where do y’all go to get fitted? What brands can you get fitted for here in BR?
Does fitting hell a high handicapper?

GolfTec has a fitting process, but other than that, not a lot of good options in BR.

Biggest thing for a high handicapper is proper flex and length. Groove a swing first before you do a full bag fitting.

Edwin Watts can help get you in proper flex.

$3k clubs won't fix a $5 swing.

I'd say get some lessons first before spending a bunch of money on fitted clubs.

I used Golftec for a swing eval, lesson bundle & fitting. Wasn't really impressed with the coach I had but being able to use the indoor hitting monitors for 1.5h a week was a major benefit for me. As far as brands for the fitting, I recall hitting Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping & Mizunos.

I've heard good things about Chris Burkstaller over at The Island in Plaquemine so you may want to reach out to him about some lessons.

Have you even done a fitting through them?

I'm currently working my way through a 5 lesson pack and am hoping to do a fitting at the conclusion of those. But I know my budget for new clubs, and I am basically 99% sure I won't be able to spring for anything from them. I'm hoping they won't be pushy, and if I should be upfront about that before booking it. I just want a thorough experience to feel like I know what I need to be looking for.

I would inquire about converting your club fitting into 2 more lessons. A club fitting is useless if you are not going to buy clubs.

Probably not as much of an issue to get fitted for anything other than shaft and length as the other poster said. Either way, Parker Brandt at U Club is great and you don’t have to be a member to take lessons or get fitted. Chris Burkstaller at the Island is great too. Both will be able to get you right.

I have done the fitting with Golftec. I didn't feel pressured at all. Your coach will do the fitting for you so I'd assume you've built some kind of rapport during your lessons.

I'm not sure if you're aware but the fitting is either your woods or your irons, not a full bag. I didn't know that going in so had to schedule a 2nd fitting.

Basically you hit 5 or so shots with your current club to get a baseline, then they start giving you other shaft/head combos to try. You'll start narrowing down to the combo that gives you the best feel & shot. I ended up buying the driver & 3 wood from them. I had him send me the results of the fitting to my email so I had a record of the club, length, shaft, lie adjust, etc. They fit you with pretty much the latest model of everything so maybe you could take the results and purchase a previous model to save some money.

A friend recently did a fitting and he is hitting much better. At Golftec
From what I’ve seen, the coach some things along the way in the fitting. He has a bad back and weird swing but they made some minor adjustments which have completely changed his ability to score.

Another friend did the 5 lesson pack. He was about 120 and shot 96 other day with 3 triples on the card.

All that said, results from Golftec appear to be good in my circle

I've done a driver fitting at Golftec in BR and Jacob was very good. Went through a lot of driver head and shaft combinations to get it just right.

I probably wouldn't want to do an iron or wedge fitting there, because of hitting off mats versus grass.

Other than the right flex probably not. You can grab any set of the rack and it will take you to a 10 no problem assuming you get good instruction.

This is more of what I'm talking about. I fully intend to replace my 16+ year old bag. It's just that I'm not prepared to spend 5 grand to outfit it with all new stuff. Likely older models or lightly used from CPO or 2nd Swing and the like.

Jacob is my swing coach and it's great so far. Easy to work with, and I've broken 80 twice for the first time since I've seen him.

I've got 2 kids in daycare, which costs more than my mortgage, so maybe 5+ years down the line I will look to go fully modern, assuming my game is ready for that next caliber of club.

I also agree that wedge fitting would be nigh impossible there. That seems like an on the course type of thing. Luckily I have a decent idea of the grind/bounce I'm looking for on my wedges. It will primarily be Irons and woods

Thanks for sharing your experience

Not so sure you qualify as a "high" handicapper.

Next time you have a session, try some of the clubs from the bags outside the bays and see how they compare.

My fitting experiences at GolfTec were pretty darn good and beneficial, though I have never had a fitting anywhere else to compare. Never had lessons there but Jacob gave me a few pointers during fitting that makes me believe he'd be a good swing coach.

As a high handicapper, if money is an issue, I would stick with your own clubs and get lessons before spending money on new clubs. Grip, swing, low contact point are all more important than a shiny set of new clubs

I did a driver fitting there about a year ago and I felt it was very beneficial. Went from 2-3 decent drives a round to 2-3 drives a round after getting my new(er) driver and adjusting a few things in my swing. I appreciated my experience at GolfTec enough that I wanted to buy my new driver from them but I ended up buying my driver 2nd hand off Callaway Pre-Owned because it was in damn good shape and only costs about half as much as a new one.
Recently did an iron fitting with Jacob, and again I thought it was well worth it. Went through a variety of different clubs and shafts and flexes, and he gave me a few pointers along the way. Enough pointers to let me know it would be beneficial to get lessons with him which I am strongly considering, but money is pretty tight on my end right now so I'm probably holding off on both the new clubs and the lessons for the time being.

Yea if you’re breaking 80 then you definitely aren’t a high handicapper. OP, I would assume you have enough feel for your swing to get fitted properly. Comes down to swing speed, ball flight, swing path, etc. I think you have a decent grip on those variables and can work with a pro to get zeroed in.

Yeah sorry if I implied that I’m a high handicapper. I have played since childhood but stopped after high school. So I’ve gotten back into it in a big way this season and I’ve got the bug bad, but I’m starting to feel limited by my very game improving irons and randomly acquired clubs from middle school/high school.

I didn’t even think to grab some of those clubs outside the bays. Wasn’t sure if that was kosher… They typically let me hit in the bay as long as I want post-lesson so I think I may just have my own little fitting session next time.

I don’t want to spend 3k. I just want someone to suggest flexes and maybe best irons for my swing.
I need new lessons for sure. Just want to maximize efficiency.

Take a drive to Mandeville to club champion, or go see the Bebu in New Orleans. Both will give you a good fitting and lots of options to hit.

Golftec fitting is limited and generic compared to those 2.

Not saying it's a terrible idea, the above are just better fittings and more thorough.

Don't buy at CC you can order your clubs else where cheaper. Bebu I think it's priced better when purchasing new

But at the end of the day, working on the swing will be more beneficial and longer lasting results..... But new gear is fun

Also look for some good used equipment, lots of us sell things and 2nd swing has really good deals too

Nope, you didn’t after I looked back. I just got confused in the thread somewhere. I say if you’re rocking and rolling to treat yourself to some clubs though. Part of any hobby is the fun of getting the gear you want. Within reason of course but keep it fun.
