Being on the water and drinking is synonymous in the places we grew up. It doesn’t make it right and I’ve been guilty of it just like almost everyone on here. However, in my older age, if you are going to run an inboard with 300+HP on a river you need to recognize the danger you present. It’s not the same as getting pissed in a bay boat fishing for reds.

agreed, and I have have come up with the most brilliant of solutions, I have trained my daughter to become a top notch boat operator, if I have a special occasion and we're going out on the boat she'll say "you enjoy your day Dad, I'll do the driving"

It's a telling indictment of Louisiana culture that this statement has a negative upvote to downvote ratio.

Damn shame the police and wildlife have ruined one of the only fun summertime things to do in south Louisiana.
It may be a little for safety, but a LOT for a money grab. They pulled over every boat coming off the lake after the bash once. That’s harassment in my book.
Who wants to be sober on a boat all day? Screw that.

that's what it's all about, when I lived in FL there were at least 5 public agencies out patrolling the water that we lived on, Tequesta PD, Jupiter PD, Palm Beach County, Fl DWF, and the Coast Guard, really ridiculous to have that many agencies patrolling that community, if there were kids out on boats(just kids, no adults,) or jet skis, it was an automatic stop and search/inspect, 100% money grab

ETA: six, I forgot the FL DPS

That's not only harassing, but it's unconstitutional.

The captain/operator needs to be sober. A lot can go wrong very quickly on a boat.

Grew up next to the local boat launch where a canal connected to the river. A dam just downstream claimed multiple lives and the canal has always been a local boating hotspot. Watched multiple people get pulled out of bad situations both dead and alive. Before cell phones people would come to our house to use the phone. They'd lost their friends and family and were generally frantic. They all had one thing in common, beer on their breath. Boats and too much alcohol don't mix.

I sit in my recliner every Friday and get hammered. If I’m going to jail, they better have a good reason for being in my house and a crooked Judge!!!

To borrow a line from John Mellencamp..........

How do you think the wildlife agent feels when he gets a call about a boat going in circles in the middle of the lake with no one in it? Or a late night call to launch and investigate a boat that ran up in the trees with people and body parts thrown all over the place? This isn't far-fetched, I've seen it.

Some people may sip a beer and drive, but there are many out there who are pounding and driving. If you want to be drunk on the boat, just don't drive. It's not that hard.

Can they randomly stop anyone to check?

I assume their go-to is checking life vests. What if the entire crew were wearing their life vests? No need for "probable cause"?

Used to run that area every weekend. Pretty much guaranteed that they were doing something stupid to draw attention, blowing through no wake zones, couldn’t get the boat back on the trailer etc.

Buy a 10 year old pontoon boat and ride around with fishing rods in the holders, they never stop me!

They have more power than local law enforcement in most states.

quote:

Can a game warden come on private property in Louisiana?
One of the biggest exceptions is how they act relating to the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits warrantless or unreasonable searches. Game wardens have broad search powers. A game warden may enter private property without permission and without a warrant, even if there is a posted sign.
