So my wife and I have had State Farm for our 3 vehicles and house since moving into our house in 2017. Prices were reasonable at the time for home and auto so went with them for everything there. Our homeowners never really went up much, even with dwelling coverage going up quite a bit last few years our annual premium has remained under $1,500 for under half a mil of dwelling coverage (homeowners is cheap here in GA) even this year.
However, the auto insurance has gotten absolutely ludicrous recently. I never paid too close attention till we had our first child recently and have some time off but my wife's latest premium came out our account and it was $313 - for 1 month on a 9 year old Acura with 130k miles thats been fully paid off for a long time now. 6 month premium for just her on that car was just under $2k...almost $4k/yr to keep her coverage on just her car. This is after we upped the deductible (to $1k) among other things on her plan in the past. To insure our 3 cars (again all paid off, all at least 9 years or older) was $3,300 every 6 months with latest premiums we had.
So I used zebra to find me coverage for auto and homeowners, allstate popped up. Rep ended up calling me and in an hour and a half we setup new homeowners, new auto policies for all 3 cars with same or BETTER coverage (lower deductibles for cars) and we are going to end up saving OVER $4k/yr in insurance. Homeowners we were able to drop about $100/yr but our 6 month premium for the 3 autos went from $3,300 with state farm to $1,300 with allstate...and we had liability (And uninsured) only on 1 of those 3 cars with state farm, not to mention 2 of the 3 cars were on low mileage plans with state farm as well
Long story short, I'll be shopping insurance yearly now, no idea why I never thought to shop around in past several years but with the time off just tackling things i never really get around to right now. Spectrum is up next with our internet bill at $80/mo when it used to be $50/mo

I’ll take this all at face value - this kind of shite is absolutely ridiculous. What’s the point of having the industry be so highly regulated if this kind of shite is possible?

Seems hard to believe

I’ve been a client of his firm for about 16 years.
This has worked out wonderfully for me.

Full coverage? Collision? Liability? Did you have full coverage and multiple claims for a cracked windshield, or accidents in the interim?

It was full coverage for her acura but $1k deductible which we had I creased from $250 or $500 I believe at one point.
She was getting dinged $900/6 months for "driving record" which was basically 1 claim we made early.last year when she hit a steel beam in a parking deck pulling out causing like $2k of body damage.
Still even without that $900 extra for "driving record" they wanted a grand every 6 months for her insurance which is still crazy on a 9 year old fully paid off MDX with 130k on the odo.
Even my insurance for my 2014 honda and 1999 mercedes which were both on low mileage discounts was like $225/mo or $1,350/6 mo and the mercedes was liability only
I have a perfectly clean record as well with 0 claims.
It was just highway robbery and I never paid close enough attention until seeing this massive increase on her auto plan recently.

IDK how this is possible.
I have State Farm and my two vehicles are both 2022 models and I pay 180/mo for both cars, a small whole life policy, and a personal articles policy for about $20,000 worth of jewelry.
$100 deductible for Comp and $250 deductible for collision.
Rental car, roadside, AD&D, Medical Payments, the works.

We also live in a very high volatile area off 285 in atlanta which is known for accidents. For example years ago at one point I was rear ended 4x in my honda in a matter of a less than 1.5 year span. Never made a claim on my side since it was always someone else's fault but the traffic is here is bad and drivers even worse. 285 (byass around atlanta) is also 18 wheeler city and they don't give AF about anything.
I was rear ended on 75 at one point and before I could get a new rear bumper installed was hit while at a light a week later. Got a new bumper installed then 6 months later was hit from behind at a light again (no damage this time), but then something like 6-9 months later a 18 wheeler with literal spikes for lug nuts tore up my rear drivers side quarter panel and they never even pulled over (was raining bad outside) on 285 when they were trying to change lanes behind me. At that point I didn't even care to get the damage fixed on my insurance because I just knew I'd get hit again so what's the point...been over 4 years now and still haven't been hit since then
Just shows how shitty the area is in terms of car damage though. These never went on my insurance though.
I will say on my side I had my state farm through my college buddy who has his own place here in atl area, they just raise the rates over time over and over and over. Never got close to as bad as my wife's though who was with statefarm through different agent. This is just how they get you I suppose hoping you never really notice.

Neighbor is an executive with State Farm. He told me one reason for high auto insurance in metro Atlanta is the amount of Uninsured Drivers particularly Illegal Immigrants in the metro. He threw out some statistics which I forgot but they were insane. That is driving up the cost. Same way the same people drive up healthcare costs/expenses because they use hospital emergency rooms as their primary care doctor.

quote:You'd be surprised how often the insurance companies are fricking their clients. I discovered it 5 years ago when I realized I was paying over $5k per year to State Farm for car insurance. I wasn't paying attention to automatic bill pay, and the frickers just kept ramping up the cost. I switched to progressive which cost $2600/yr now (a 50% cost savings). I've already had a claim with progressive and was treated better than State Farm ever did. frick em.

You can't shop homeowner's insurance in Louisiana. You are lucky to even get a policy that isn't through the state's guaranty association.

I gave this a try, but the only result was State Farm. Might be better in states other than Louisiana.

I have 2 autos + house insured with State Farm. My BIL works at State Farm in Austin and suggested I rate shop. I've been with SF for 30+ years and pay $3000 total per year. Full coverage on 2 vehicles and house probably 150k replacement cost.
I went to an independent for a quota and they quoted me higher than SF. I was shocked and still don't understand why.
