Is that where they tell you not to do something they are actually doing themselves?

They are dredging the lakes to make them deeper overall. Reworking May Street weir section. Adding the dredge material to expand the size of the bird sanctuary.
Interested to see what happens with all the stumps.
One of the big road blocks with the project was having to move the dredge material off site. They chose to add it to areas rather than move it. I don't think they have any plans for the stumps though.
Personally, I think they should culvert the corporation canal that goes around the lakes and turn that into a green space using the dredge material. Could do the same with the pond behind Her get hall.

Why didnt they do it in the winter? When vegetation has died off some?

How long do you think a body is going to stay hidden in 5 feet of still lake water?

If they sift through what they dredge near the interstate flyover they will likely find 50-100 handguns.

There would have been fish kills regardless of the season that it started. But, I assume it was because of the funding and mobilization of equipment. They started a few months later than was initially reported.
They also made a test plot in one of the coves off Stanford last year. Probably realized that they would have to change their process up a bit regarding the stumps.
There are a bunch of them and they get in the way of the suction dredging.

This is a great idea.

The first phase is pulling up all the old stumps that were left behind when they made the lakes to begin with. Once the stumps are removed, the dredge operation can begin. They are going to pump the mud to another location where it will be stacked and dried to make new land. When you turnover the old organic matter from the bottom of swamp mud and let it air out, it's going to stink.

Wasn’t most of that done the first time they dredged the lakes?

Should have smelled the Manchac pass after Ida rolled through and uprooted all the swampy trees :)

I don't think it was ever successfully dredged because of the amount of stumps and trees.

There are 3 different groups out there currently :
Tree trimming/ cleaning out shrubs on shoreline lines: ( local arborists)
(Environmental group) out of New York: is doing be dredging , to make water deeper, creating island and jetties for birds, and strategically placing stumps for bird/ turtle perching habitat .
( Bridge builders) they are digging out stumps under I10 to get ready to drive piles for the bridge width expansion. ( company out of Nola, 5 year project) .

Will they finally find the submarine? I spent many nights with my date with the car pointed out over the water canoodling in the back seat in the 1967 period of time. Came close to seeing the sub lights once, but it turned out to be the campus cops getting their rocks off by shining lights in cars

Was like this when they dredged back in the 80s.
