Was the cow a pet for you? If not, that's what you raise them for.

Very bittersweet feeling. Anyone relate?

You shouldn't have fricked it. That's how you catch the feels.

The first one is definitely tough. Just realize it was a painless death.

That's why you don't name steers, only bulls or heifers

It feels bad, but I'm not going to stop eating meat and I will for sure be thinking about the way we fed her. I appreciate that animal. I am sorry that we had to do what we had to do, but I am appreciative that we will be fed.

If we more of this attitude our (American society) relationship with food would be healthier and we would be healthier. It’s good to know where your food comes from and appreciate how it got to your plate.

Cows are bred for meat, milk, and seat leather. If it weren't for that, they would be scarce. There is no other reason to have one.

A nice pour of brown water and a toast to the beast for its service to your family.

I remember when I was about 10 going with my dad to a pig barn to pick one for processing. I know how you feel. I felt real bad for that pig.

There were so many buffalo (one herd covering 4 states) b/c Indians, incredibly, preferred the taste to beef.

Treat them humanely.
Let them live a suitably long life.
Insure it's a painless death.

I'm in favor of increasing standards for harvesting so that it's done humanely, but getting rid of meat is a non-starter.

What percent of the total weight of the cow ends up as meat?
