I sat next to him at the Spring Luncheon for a couple years. He missed one year because of his stroke, then came the next year and he looked surprisingly good physically and mentally. After the luncheon we were chatting and I told him how good he looked. He said son, don’t bullshite me. I’ve got mirrors in my house, I know how I look. Funny sob.

My first hero. I was 7 in 1959. My dad knew him. Said he was one tough SOB, which from my dad was one helluva compliment.

Paul Deitzel used to say that the greatest thing about Cannon's run against the Rebs was that the humidity that night was in the 90% range, i.e. incredibly high. Cannon played the whole game, both ways. Players were cramping behind the bench the whole second half & Cannon played the whole game.

My father played with him on the 58 team. And I have spent a bunch of time with him over the years at reunions or during trips to games with my parents

I was fortunate enough to meet him in 2008.
RIP.

He was my neighbor when we moved to BR to start our business. He actually built our office and was our landlord. Saw him every day and thought the world of him, even after I knew about the counterfeiting deal. He knew he was being wiretapped and asked me to scan his phone lines and offices, but I didn't detect anything. Buried some of the cash in our parking lot and the rest on Jones Creek.

I have the claim to fame of being flipped off by him.
Was cycling in St Francisville past his house out on Sage Hill Road and he was pulling out of his driveway in his old pickup truck and had to pause.
He never liked pausing.

We were classmates at LSU - but I only met him a couple of times. He came over to the married students apartments on Nicholson Dr. a few times.
First time I saw him play was at his last game as a high schooler at Istouma. He played everything. Was the main runner, punter, and place kicker.
Remember his last punt - the returner caught the punt inside the 5 yd line, jiggled thru all the defenders and was in the clear by the time he got to around the 35 - nobody between him and the goal but Cannon.
Cannot had not moved 5 yds from where he punted the ball - the returner began jigging back and forth and Cannon stayed directly between him.
Then nailed him with a form tackle when they met. == beautiful piece of football right there.
My brother took me to that game and told me Billy Cannon was coming to LSU and would be the best player in America. Four years later it came true.
Last time I saw him was in Junction Texas back in the 70'?s. - we were staying at the same motel on a hunting trip. Our deer lease was in the same general area as his.

So many of our younger Tiger fans simply can’t appreciate what this man was capable of on offense, defense and special teams. I am so happy to remember his greatness on his birthday.

A great player and a credit to LSU. I never got to meet Billy, but saw him play in a few football games with Kansas City. I also listened on the radio to all the nation wide broadcast on the AM station WWL all the way up here in South Carolina of LSU football. I love it when Jimmy Taylor and Billy Cannon played together. Now that was great football.
Rest In Peace Billy.

I remember him playing in Super Bowl II. I was born in '59 and in my parents home we pulled for Billy Cannon and his team that day.

And made the game-saving tackle on the goal line to end the game.
