Could it be solely a southern bias?

LSU would have beat the shite outta them that year.

I mean didn't that "title" get stripped from them as well?

Same reason they deride the “flyover states.” Bunch of coastal elite pricks that think they matter more than us

Is the media that insistent? I thought it would kind of be dulled by the fact USC had the 2004 championship taken away and LSU ended up winning two more.
Either way, IDGAF. We got the crystal football from that season in Baton Rouge

What media insists that USC was the only champion? I routinely see LSU also referred to as the champion. Fact of the matter is that under that system, the AP also named a champion and they voted for USC. It sucks we were robbed of a matchup, but it is what it is.

Also, stop trying to be a victim. Sad.

Fact of the matter is the system that everyone agreed to and played under to decide the national champion was the BCS. Just because it didn’t go the media darlings way doesn’t mean the AP gets to decide who gets the title. That AP “title” is literally meaningless under the system everyone agreed to

Yeah and the BCS sucked shite. Anyway, I'm not sure why this is being re-litigated 20 years later. You are free to believe, like I do, LSU was the best team in the country that year, and we have the trophy to prove it.

Because the media picked them as the champion while we actually won the BCS championship. They will obviously recognize the championship they awarded since they are the only thing that makes it not meaningless.

We were the BCS College Football National Champions and they were the media voting AP national champions. I guess if you’re a media guy, you may stumble across the vote that your kind of people did back then. Meaningful to them probably but outside of the BCS College Football parameters.

USC's "title" in 2023 was an AP title. Not a BCS title.

AP = Associated Press

Associated Press = "The Media"

USC was their champ. Lsu was the real champ.

Neither the title or message body implies in any way that the question was about them being the only champion.

The question at hand is why are they even named co-champions when everyone agreed that the BCS winner would be THE (one and only) champion. No matter what the AP or coaches poll say.

They went to the BCS because everyone was tired of the AP journalists picking who the champ was. So everyone agreed that the BCS NCG would determine who the season's champion was. But the moment the East and West coast media got upset that their darling USC Trojans weren't in the game, they decided that there could be co-champions and the AP Poll counted after all.

This sums it up nicely, and is the only answer.
