AP News article

That’s a pretty lofty cut, I have never heard of anything anywhere near that magnitude of an athlete leaving that much on the table.

I’m honestly surprised the union allowed him to do this

Wait what?

The Jets were pretty good last year with absolute poo at QB.

Getting Rodgers and Hall back, with a year of development for Wilson should have that offense ready to be awesome.

Had they not redone the deal his 2024 Base Salary for would have been $6,326,470 per game.

That's 15% more than what KC is paying Mahomes for the entire upcoming season. Rodgers agreed to the deal in order to facilitate a trade out of Green Bay, knowing the deal would have had to be undone. His base 2024 salary is 100 times more, not 100 percent more, 100 times more than what Kupp or McCaffrey makes this season.

quote:

2023 Base Salary

940,000 DeVonte Smith
1,080,000 Cooper Kupp
1,080,000 C McCaffrey
1,100,000 Joe Burrow
5,500,000 Pat Mahomes
46,000,000 D Watson

Brady left a ton of money on the table every time he signed a contract with New England for the same reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers has a 2021-esque season and the Jets end up being really, really good.

That will be nothing compared to the endorsement and other business deals he will get if he brings a Super Bowl to the Jets.

That’s over $100 million owed to him in 2024. That’s a comical amount. This move was always happening to get them off the hook for $100M+ next season.

Original Green Bay extension + re-worked contract to facilitate the trade to Jets created an unrealistic contract. Too much money had been moved around.

Myth. He left a little but nothing significant.

Fake news. The experts on r/NFL subreddit told me he’s a selfish science denying anti-vaxxer who hates his family and plans white supremacist rallies with Joe Rogan.

$35M is $35M but he's still getting $75M over the next two years. He's made $300M on the field through 2022; he's not hurting for money. For that kind of competitor I imagine his legacy is worth more than that paycut. If it leads to another championship it will be worth it.

Brady was about the 10th highest paid QB for basically his entire post-Rookie deal. Yes, he made up a lot by stretching out signing bonuses and contantly re-working his deal (almost on a year to year basis) but he was always vastly underpaid compared toamy of his contemporaries. Go look at his numbera compared to Peyton Manning's.

Manning was making $20M/yr for years, plus he still had giant signing bonuses.

Brady in his mid-late 30s, still in his prime, was making as low as $9M/yr.

It's hogwash to say he didn't take less. He always did, even in Tampa, when guys like Rodgers and fricking Kirk Cousins were making almost double him.
