He died doing what he loved, I guess. I won't watch the video.

Sounds like those dudes didn’t know squat.

I’m assuming he wasn’t isjing a split rack which would have allowed to bar from crashing to the floor?? I agree a spotter can only provide very minimal help to prevent some one squirting that much weight once
Twitter video
Yeah no safeties here, but these are bumper plates and wouldn’t have harmed anything to dump them on the floor
If anything, I think the spotter contributes to his death because he can’t bail with him right behind him.
I’ve even seen a few powerlifting meet videos lately where they use kids as spotters who aren’t strong enough and have no idea what they’re doing.

Where were the safety arms?

Unless one is a competitive powerlifter, no point to deadlift and squat. Especially with weights approaching your 1 RM.
In the rare case, I incorporate squats I usually do working sets of 15-20 reps with light weight

Man that was TERRIBLE.

The “spotter” is apparently the gym owner and if you look at their social media, they’ve instructed their members to spot by putting their hands up by the bar instead of underneath the chest.
What a clownshow

That wasn’t a gym bro spotting. That was the owner and head trainer of the gym.

Its not bullshite. You think top level bodybuilders are wasting time on deadlifts? Much better movements to isolate muscles.
As far as squats, some do some don’t. Entirely possible to build bug legs without squats
ETA: I can almost guarantee you won’t find Chris Bumstead trying to 1 RM on squat

The worst thing that would have happened with no spotter was he would have set off every PF lunk alarm for 300 miles.

That dude killed the lifter. You can't pick up 50 pounds like that much less help a guy ditch a 425lb squat.

That isn’t what you said. This is what you said:

You have no idea what you’re talking about and probably weigh either 160 skinny or 260 fat.
Chris Bumstead is one who deadlifts heavy (7-8 plates) (and squats smith machine) , my coach deadlifts 7 plates, I can do 6 for reps. Tom Platz squatted quite a bit, so did Ronnie and Jay.
Squat isn’t the only movement a bodybuilder would use. Squat, hack squat, smith machine squat, extensions, etc etc will all be used in conjunction with each other at various points.

That is an incredibly dumb way to spot on squat. As said already without the spoofer could have just rolled the weight back and stepped forward, if using safety bars just let it hit the bar.
That was a pretty preventable death.

I can't get over this.
Got a link to their spotting instructions?
