I think everyone is very aware that this is our weak spot or at least appears to be the weakest link of our team.

I think we have a good one in Welch and it would be great for Harris to pan out as he could be an All-American type player for us if he keeps on the straight and narrow. How does everyone feel about Alexander, can this kid keep up in the SEC?

As far as safety spots we have Burns and Brooks who should hold down their spots well. Sage Ryan looks to be improving and Langois has had some hype this off-season as FOTW.

Has anyone heard anything about what our cornerback situation might look like? How bad is it really or is Kelly just trying to motivate his guys?

Competition breeds excellence.

Bring as many guys into the mix. Throw them in tough situations and let the best man win. It's pressure but if you can't execute or make plays then next man up.

Moving Perk to MLB is going to assist the secondary as well, IMO. His elite athleticism will give them tools to plug some holes.

Has Kelly said it’s “bad” or just a question mark? You can’t really tell a whole lot from Spring or summer workouts. But we have a lot of talent there, they’ll just have to see who steps and rises to the top once they get into camp. I think he’s probably ok with the talent there—could be deeper and more experienced—the question is just who will step up and grab those jobs.

Toler is another name to add. He could win a CB job or the nickel. At the very least, he’ll be in the rotation.

I didn't follow the spring, but all the buzz seems to be about Alexander?

Pressure on the QB will be the key to the secondary’s success.

this is Kelly learning from last years fla st game. it was a lack of communication in the defensive backfield that caused a ton of problems. Kelly is warning them that they better be on their A game before game 1.

there is more talent at CB this year, but will they learn to play as a team by game 1? This is Kelly getting ahead of the schedule. Fans, we have a real coach at the helm.

I really hope Welch gets a honest shot at being a starter, personally think the kid is a beast.

At CB we have the guys to match up & cover (in no particular order):
Harris
Johnson
Chestnut
Alexander
Toviano
Welch
They need to understand their assignments and communicate. FSU will test them. A persistent pass-rush in the face of Travis will be essential to success.

The more reps this unit gets, the better they will be in 23.

I think the 2022 secondary had more question marks than 2023, and they were more than serviceable!

With key transfer additions, I think we'll be above average.

I trust in Matt House.

We just found out that yet another of the A&M DB transfers has been kicked off his new team - the Smoke Bouie guy at GA.

Looks at the moment like we got the right one.

Alexander looked way better than Harris in spring. Harris looked like one of our worst secondary players tbh.

Chestnut is better than sage , wouldn’t surprise me to see him start at nickel with Alexander and Welch on the outside

The front 7 is the best friends of the CB’s. We have the makings of a great group there. House will dial up pressure as needed. Read up on the transfers from Oregon St, Texas and Syracuse. Speights, Oghoufo and Chestnut, all three of those guys would have been starting at the schools they came from. Kelly and staff were very selective, it looks to have paid off.

Alexander is legit. Toviano will see SIGNIFICANT snaps all over the field.

I'm much more worried about LB outside of Perkins than the secondary. I think the secondary will be pretty dang good.

It’s a big unknown. Thank goodness we got so many guys from the portal. This group could potentially be really good if we keep everyone health. I just don’t know how well they will perform together.
