You are 100% correct. The goal of the school system is no longer to educate students. It is to ensure that they walk across the stage. That’s it. It doesn’t matter if it’s Caddo Parish or Huntsville City Schools.

Want someone to blame? As with most issues, look no further than the closest mirror. Parents want justice, until it’s their kid, then they want grace. The people elect a bunch of former litigators to office and then wonder why the education system is crap.

Coming from someone who did contract work for St Helena schools I can’t imagine a worse run school district than that one. Amazing there is actually worse.

The Democrat way.

And these stupid people keep voting them into office.

I didn't click the link and read the article, but the concept of graduating students who can not pass an end of semester/year statewide assessment has been around for a while in the form of the April Dunn Act (formally Act 833).

Also, don't forget Louisiana is taking steps to formally fill teaching positions with people who cannot pass a teacher certification test. I say formally because principals have been staffing schools with non-certified candidates for years through various loopholes and "tricks of the trade".

Yes, however, that has been limited to students with disabilities. It’s has been very successful in getting those students a diploma. My guess is they are just going to extend it to everyone.

A separate solution would be to eliminate the End of Course EOC tests. They are not federally mandated and Louisiana is one of the few states left that tests children 3-12th grade on standardized assessments.

If you remove the homicide statutes from the Criminal Code, the murder rates will drop to zero.

Holy frick these people are retarded.

Any decent school is not for this. . This is a political move by BESE to keep crappy school districts “scoring” closer to good school districts. No decent school is for this. Ex LP, AP, Central, Zachary, etc.

I correctly predicted that this would occur when the state began LEAP testing.

When I gave the LEAP test teachers were not supposed to look at the test but we had to monitor the kids while they took it. Hell I walked around looking at the test . It is very simple, in fact I thought it was too easy.
IIRC if a student scored 50 % or more they were considered to be in one of the upper quintiles (lol).
Routinely I was always in trouble from the principal and asst. principals because I was accused of grading to hard. I would not inflate grades. The head football and basketball coaches accused me of torpedoing their programs because their kids couldn't make a 2.0.

Their are too many 20 watt lightbulbs in this state.

The government created the situation, not the kids.

No doubt, but the COVID lag is a real issue, whether people want to admit it or not. Especially with kids that were already struggling to begin with.

The government and school boards sent kids home and severely mismanaged the entire situation as we all know. You can’t blame the kids and say “well hold them back” that’s penalizing the kids a second time, for the government’s deficiencies.

Education is a joke nationwide! Students have been given HS diplomas for doing absolutely nothing for decades. This is nothing new. It's all about making the numbers look good, not making sure they get a good education!

It’s all about a test nowadays. One could argue this is a step in the right direction of moving away from the test that teachers teach for all year and allow kids to actually think for themselves and learn critical thinking.

They are already doing this with crime statistics. Things are getting much worse while we are told things are improving. Just change the way crime numbers are counted. Like the elections, it not who votes, it's who counts the votes. Ignore it and it will go away mentality. This society is sick.
