You’re being a disingenuous fig if you can’t see that the MLS is getting much better at player development. And a good bit of those guys who are being developed in MLS academies are finding success in Europe at a young age. Everyone wants to go to Europe if they’re good enough, so yeah the quality of the league is going to be down when the best guys are leaving it. But to not acknowledge the strides they’ve made in developing talent is weird.
And I couldn’t give a frick less about MLS so I’m not some fanboy. I watch maybe 30 minutes each season.

Only one of these guys was voted as an All Star this year.
Whether they are on this year or not doesn’t really matter.
If people are going to say, “This tournament doesn’t matter. Let’s send our C team,” and the C team is mostly MLS players, that’s inherently a referendum on MLS.
Outside of a few exceptions like Zimmerman, we send the MLS players to the tournaments we say aren’t important.

He played in the fricking WC
Dude is just wasting space and too your point
We could have given a young player his spot

That’s literally what y’all have been begging for. Y’all have spent the last decade praying for all of our best players to leave MLS and now can’t stop saying “damn, they ain’t got no good players in MLS.” What the frick do yall want?

losing to Panama and struggling against CONCACAF teams is the same old USA.
We won the gold cup against A teams two years ago with our C team. This version of our C team was significantly weaker than that team and it showed

Have we progressed at all over the last decade? I would say no and have almost certainly regressed as a nation in regards to regional dominance and overall success.

Bru
That’s my point
The talent that can’t make it to Europe isn’t that good at all
For the league to improve to be a top league. The domestic talent has to improve. Those second level guys who stay home suck. It has to get better but it isn’t.

I’ve yet to see anyone argue that the MLS is even a decent league

For the league to be good enough that the players can stay in it without stunting their growth. It’s pretty straightforward.

So you think the best young talent should stay in MLS?
SCH is Landon Donovan, y'all.

You right that was Morris
Which is also an issue
Neither of them should have been on the flight to Qatar

Well the MLS domestic academies have been so good that they are producing talent that either skips MLS altogether or leaves MLS after 2-3 years.
The bulk of the MLS guys on this rosters are dudes in their mid to late 20's who have already reached their peak as a player.

So a bait and switch and then don't even answer my question.
C'mon baw, you're way better than this.

It’s not your point though, because our second tier guys are also in Europe these days. Our talent pool has expanded tremendously and all of our fans have been begging them to go and they’ve gone. So now when we have to rely on MLS guys, they’re like our 4th or 5th choice at each position. MLS is doing the job by creating the talent pool and much like other leagues in the western hemisphere, they sell their best talents.
If Argentina played in tournaments with just players that play in Argentina, they’d get their arse whipped. But you’re not saying “the Argentine league needs to get better at developing talent” when all of their best players leave for Europe.
