There are exceptions but most Americans still in MLS by age 25 are 3rd tier national team guys at best. You can say the same for Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, etc. No western hemisphere league can compete with the top leagues in Europe. Best case for the US is that our domestic league creates enough talent to send 30-50 guys to Europe that make up our talent pool with occasional youngsters breaking in from MLS. We’re a lot closer to that goal now than we were even 6 years ago

Well it needs to start making a profit for starters

Don and he’s circle can only keep this game up for so long

You are right tho, what we just saw is a referendum on the league

For the league to be good enough that the players can stay in it without stunting their growth. It’s pretty straightforward.

You think MLS, a league only 30 years old with an academy system in its infancy, is going to rival Europe in player development anytime soon? Let’s be realistic.

MLS is doing the job by creating the talent pool and much like other leagues in the western hemisphere, they sell their best talents. If Argentina played in tournaments with just players that play in Argentina, they’d get their arse whipped. But you’re not saying “the Argentine league needs to get better at developing talent” when all of their best players leave for Europe.

This isn’t comparable. Every kid plays soccer in those countries which means there are limitless places for them to play and good coaches to teach them.

In the US, or any high cost of living country, you need a successful domestic league with multiple healthy tiers to have the resources to scout and develop players. Because the US hasn’t had this, we’ve fallen back on the “pay for play” model which has limited the player pool for decades.

Talented young players will get pushed into soccer in Argentina, Brazil, or Uruguay. Talented young players in the US will not if we do not have a strong domestic league because an American child has far more alternatives to soccer available to them than a South American child.

I love how you're just ignoring everyone brining up the success of the youth academies and are instead just hitting you're usual talking points.

Are you drunk?

I’m saying the standard of player who stays home needs to improve big time

If not the league will still suck

For the record our "second-tier" Americans include guys like Paxten Aaronson and Taylor Booth who would've instantly been the two of the best players on this roster... but they had more important things than C-team Gold Cup.

I just hope we can all find a woman that loves us as much as SCH hates MLS.

Ok? I don’t get why you keep harping on this. We all want the standard to improve. But the better players will keep going to Europe and at some point there will be a talent plateau.

You mean the points I have even posted about on how awesome it is these kids are going straight to Europe and it will help our national team. It’s great

But that’s not the topic. It’s about the standard of player who does not go to Europe but players in our domestic league is awful. They get chances to play for the national team and look like shite

We even have a manager who calls them up for the World Cup

And it really won't matter because our youth academies will continue to churn out European talent, while MLS continues to increase in value.

So who really gives a frick?

We also have a manager who played an entire Euro-based XI in the World Cup and called up more European-based players per camp than Jurgen Klinsmann.

Feelings over fact though, right?

You are speaking to me like I’m a 12-year-old watching their first soccer match that’s completely clueless on the world stage of club soccer.

Brazil played an MLS keeper in the World Cup once.

Argentina played an MLS player this past World Cup too (not Messi).

Who would you rather call up

Booth or Roldan?

That’s a rhetorical question

Are you using a time machine to make this argument from 10 years ago?

Off the top of my head:

Tyler Adams - Red Bull Academy
Westin McKennie - FC Dallas
Ricardo Pepi - FC Dallas
Brenden Aaronson - Philadelphia Union
Paxton Aaronson- Philadelphia Union
Taylor Booth - Real Salt Lake
Gaga Slonina - Chicago
Justin Che - FC Dallas
Gio Reyna - NYCFC
Chris Richards - FC Dallas

Have all come from MLS and we’ve only been trying with academies for like 10 years and only really doing it right for 5.

Does it really matter if neither play?
