Is LSU still a playoff contender with Nuss at QB?

This is not another thread claiming that Nuss should be starting. I think JD is the best option LSU has at QB.

My question is, how good is this team if JD isn't at QB for whatever reason?

LSU has some pretty lofty expectations this year, but those expectations are assuming JD is LSU's starting QB. Would those expectations change if something happens and JD doesn't play?

I know that it's apples to oranges but I'm not comparing the two QBS to each other. I'm comparing how the team might perform with either of our QBs, and would the expectations be the same.

He’s a very good option to have at number 2. Most teams aren’t that lucky in the portal era.

LSU will not be great because of QB play this year. QB is what can elevate this team to championship contention, but it is not the reason. Whether we end up with JD or Nuss at the helm, we are poised to have a damn good year

Nuss is a better passing option than JD.
Today's football is a passing contest first and foremost.
So yeah we are definitely a contender with Nuss at QB.

Def not ideal for this year. But nuss is solid and we still a contender I believe. Best backup in the country for sure. Next year. He will take off.

Scheme will change, but we have multiple options at WR with Nabers, Lacy, Thomas, Hilton, Sampson, Anderson, Brown . . .

TE becomes more dynamic with 6'7 Pimpton added to Taylor and Markway as an in line option.

We return 4 RBs that averaged 5+ ypc and 27 total rushing TDs along with Diggs from ND and 2 quality FR RBs.

The entire starting OL returns.

The entire offensive staff returns.

Don't know if we are a contender with Nuss or JD, but whoever is under center is set up to succeed.

I think it’s definitely possible and would really just spend on how quickly he progresses. He still doesn’t have that much meaningful game experience. Whenever he does eventually become our full time starter it might take a little bit for him to be 100% comfortable.

Definitely a contender with the upgrade. Start him.

I honestly believe LSU would be more effective with Nuss in there. I like Daniels but he can be tentative. I like gunslinger quarterbacks like Nuss. Hope he gets some snaps early on.

I would rather have either Nuss or Daniels at QB than any QB that are on other SEC teams this year-- notably Auburn (a joke), A&M and Florida.

I've always liked Nuss and believe he has more upside. However, Daniels looked much better in the Spring game at hitting the open receiver and more decisive in throwing it down field. I hope it carries over into the games. If so we will b e hard to beat, IMO.

I guess that depends on whether or not you believe LSU is a playoff contender WITH Daniels.

Because we still have to beat 2 teams in our own conference that have something like 90% blue chips on their roster.

ETA: I think we're in excellent shape with Daniels or Nuss.

So I don't know if we are a contender with Nuss at QB.

I'll feel better about Nuss next year.
