Is there a franchise in sports that over performs more than the Tampa Bay Rays?

Since 2008 they have 8 90 win seasons. Not including 2020, a shortened season they would have won 90, and they are well on pace to win 90 this year. I don't pay much attention to them, but had no idea they were that successful. That stadium should be selling out.

They're quietly one of the best run organizations in probably all of sports, at least with what they have to work with.
The problem is Tropicana sucks and is way out of the way from Tampa, so nobody goes, thereby limiting their revenue.
If they had an established stadium in the city and a little more money from ownership, they'd probably have multiple rings

They’ve had a great run of GM’s starting with Andrew Friedman. I think even their post Friedman GMs have stayed with the team. They’re very well run.

Spurs maybe? Although not lately

It must suck to know that while your team constantly overachieves, they’re actually way too cheap to ever win a WS.

Obviously a very small sample size, but holy shite the Golden Knights in the NHL couldn’t possibly be more well run in the first few years of their existence.

We went watch them a few months back. Stadium is terrible. But they do offer some good craft beers and food.

It’s not like St. Pete is a town of 10,000 people. Not to mention all of the other surrounding cities.
It’s still a very large and thriving metro area.

And they usually play in a bear of a division.
Being out spent by 100's of millions

didn't the NHL give them and Seattle some advantages?
but yeah Tampa's day is coming at this rate if they keep getting to the dance

The Indians/Guardians are up there. They are extremely competitive every season despite having most of the same payroll constraints as Tampa Bay.

Golden knights were given every chance to be good.
Unlike all other teams in sports who expansion
Atlanta might still be in Atlanta if they wer given the keys to be a good team from the start

I think they kind of caught lightning in a bottle where they had:
1) GMs who hadn’t done an expansion draft in a cap league, who made some incredibly poor deals
2) An area that embraced their first pro franchise and then used sport as part of the healing process post Vegas shooting
3) incredibly competent and ruthless Gm/owner who set a high standard of winning with very little loyalty to anyone who didn’t help achieve that end goal

UrinatingTree has a great video about the whole stadium saga

I just got back from seeing the Braves there last weekend and I’ve never seen more expensive concessions at a baseball stadium. My guess was that was part of the way they make up for lack of ticket revenue.

seattle was given a great chance to compete, not as great as vegas, and they won a few series.
i hope if they expand again, they continue, many expansion teams had to endure a lot of bad hockey, and not gifted a chance to win.

Everyone shits on the Trop, but how bad can it be? I do hate covered stadiums but aside from that what makes it shitty?

The Spurs have won 5 titles since 1999.

This is kind of a retarded take. Pinellas County has 1M people. Downtown Tampa is less than 30 minutes away. It's location isn't ideal, but the idea that it's terrible is overblown.
