Taysom Hill compared to ‘truck’ and ‘buff gazelle’ by key Saints teammates

Taysom Hill continues to be a jack of all trades for the New Orleans Saints. The 32-year-old has played tons of roles over the years and 2023 looks to be more of the same.

Last year was Hill’s most prolific season as a rusher, compiling 575 rushing yards on 6.0 yards per attempt — both career-highs — and seven touchdowns on the ground. He also tallied nine receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns through the air. The Saints have given him a lot to deal with on top of quarterback duties and he has withstood it all.

Hill’s unique role with the Saints has earned him some fascinating comparisons from teammates Derek Carr and Jamaal Williams, according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN.
“A guy like Taysom, who’s bigger than this stage, give the ball to him, and he’s faster than my truck,” Carr said, via ESPN. “He runs through and he runs over a couple of guys and he gets a first down. You watch it on tape and itTaysom Hill will likely be used more in the passing game with Carr settling in and Williams joining Alvin Kamara in the backfield. Terrell notes that Hill has practiced often as a pass-catcher this offseason but Hill is unsure where most of his reps will come from. His versatility and his embrace of it to help the team make him valuable for the Saints.

Williams has some familiarity with Hill, as they played together for many years at BYU before making the leap to the NFL. The Saints’ new running back called Hill a “big power back” before comparing his graceful yet forceful running to a specific animal. “You give him that little open lane, let him open up and run, he starts moving like a big, buff gazelle,” Williams said, via ESPN.

The Saints expect to be a more potent offense with the additions of Carr, Williams and Foster Moreau, who has dealt with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma this offseason but is now in full remission. Having a guy like Hill to fill certain voids makes life easier for New Orleans and the many newcomers to the offense. happens over and over again.”

Kind of amazing that he hasn’t seemed to lose much athleticism at 32.

One of Dennis Allen's first coaching moves was declaring Taysom out the QB room and made it public that he's "in the TE" room, all to protect a mental midget jameis winston in the qb role of the "starting qb". frick dennis forever.

His next receiving TD will give him double digit TDs passing, running and receiving.

I would like to know the last 10-10-10 guy in the nfl. I assume you have to go back quite a ways.

If ever.

I think he is the most versatile player in the NFL since Sammy Baugh. I was just looking up some stats trying to remember which season he was in the top 2 or 3 in passing, led the NFL in interceptions and punting.

Some of Baugh’s more notable accomplishments that year, 1943:

? As the tailback in Washington’s single wing, he completed 55.6 percent of his passes, best in the NFL that year. That might not be up to Drew Brees’s standard, but the rest of the league’s passers in ’43 completed a collective 42.6 percent of their throws.

? He threw 23 touchdowns passes, second in the NFL—and third-highest all-time to that point.

? In a 48-10 bludgeoning of the Brooklyn Dodgers, he passed for 376 yards and six TDs, both single-game records.

? As a defensive back, he had 11 interceptions, which broke another league record.

? He averaged an NFL-leading 45.9 yards a punt, often flipping the field with a well-timed quick kick. Five of his boots were longer than 70 yards. To put this in perspective, punters not named Baugh averaged a combined 37.5 yards.

? And in the midst of one of the most amazing seasons in NFL annals he had arguably the greatest single-game performance in history: In a 42-20 win over the Detroit Lions on Nov. 14, Baugh fired four touchdown passes, intercepted four passes and got off an 81-yard punt, the longest of the year in the NFL.

Kordell stewart may be the next closest but only has 5 rec TDs. If ever may be the right answer.

And Walter Payton just shy with 8 passing TDs. 8 is an incredible number for a running back. Ditka loved that half back pass.

A ton of people don't know anything about him. He very well could be the best football player on NFL history.

Also if you have ever seen old interviews with him. He is actually the definition of what a Baw or Baugh is.

So what was the excuse for Winston playing and starting at QB if “sucking arse” is a prerequisite for not playing QB anymore?

Taysom was the best QB on the roster in 2021 and 2022.

Didn't you say "f@ck CSP for not giving Taysom a fair shot at QB"?

How about a hearty f@ck you to the other 31 teams that can't see the greatness Taysom has at QB. Or how about a hearty f@ck you to Taysom for not believing what you believe. He could have become a FA and led another team to greatness by now but he chose to sign a long term deal to stay under the long shadow of Brees. You seem to be a fan club...of one.
