Started this last night and watched 3 episodes. I'm interested!

As a kid I remember watching American Gladiators on ESPN classic. This is a documentary going over the craziness behind the scenes (e.g., steroid/drug use, sex/partying, injuries, the production/direction of the show and more)

Interesting watch

Wasn't Vince McMahon involved in that at its inception?

Will watch it eventually. The 30 for 30 was ok but was definitely hurt by a bunch of the Gladiators refusing to do it because the a-hole creator was involved.

Just finished the doc and they didn't mention him so I would assume not. Some crazy weird Elvish impersonator had the idea

The 30 for 30 was 2/3rds this a-hole and finding the guy he copied all the stuff from then cut out of the business.

I watched American Gladiators in real time as a child and was floored by the concept. I was convinced it was gonna be the next big thing and replace major sports. "This is the future, right here." It's laughable, looking back.

I love watching Ozzyman do the play by play on them. "Spinny-flippy and oh no! He's reached destination fu$&+Ed".

The 30 for 30 was good, but VERY hindered by the idiot a-hole "creator" of the show. And while that whole story was interesting I guess, I would have much rathered have gotten 25% that story and 75% show story/stories/background, not the other way around.

And yeah, the lack of gladiators was pretty glaring as well. I liked the 30f30, but I do hope this one is better.

Loved this show as a kid. I wanted to go on it so bad and I could of done everything. Only problem would of been weighing 150 lbs with those big MFs I didn't see that then but I do now. This has been a good series to watch, only have 2 left.

The remake with the rock was not as good, to safe.

I enjoyed the doc

With that said, the show didn’t go to shite because they told the select group to walk. The model, while great, has a 4-5 year shelf life before a steep decline or need for a major direction change.

Feel bad for the guys who didn’t get a whole lot out of it, but it was what it was. It was never sustainable as a career or major ‘sport’.

This is correct. The cast seems, unsurprisingly, to believe they were responsible for the show’s popularity. In reality, it was just the idea that made it popular. When the idea got old and people had their fill, nothing could have been done to revive it.

That being said, I do wish the cast was paid better, got a small cut of NIL merchandising, and proper medical care. It was pretty terrible they got NONE of those things.
