If being recognized by the NCAA is legitimate, yes. But Baseball in the old days was much like Stanford and fencing. There are only a few schools with fencing teams, Stanford and a couple of female colleges.??. But they are recognized as as legitimate national championships.

Why would you include UT if the criteria for “legitimate titles” is post-1980? They’ve only won three since then (1983, 2002, 2005), and 2 of their “illegitimate” titles happened before USC won their second title. (USC won their second title in 1958.)
Because they continue to win and be relevant.
USC has a trash baseball program for the past 20+ years.

I agree. You can “but” all you want but the NCAA recognizes it so it’s legitimate.
I’m LSU through and through but if we try to discount the NCAA recognition then well we’re saying what we’ve done as a university has no meaning.
They have 12 according to the NCAA rules of the time. We have 7. They win.
Now- the real debate is competition. 2009 and 2023? Nothing USC did can compare given the current competitiveness of college baseball. I’d even argue that what this years team did was beyond any that Skip’s teams did in the 90’s simply because of how even the field is now.

Doesn’t change what they did then.

because their football board claims 2003 as a title. but I cant recall them playing in Nola that year
That’s just intellectually dishonest. Is the BCS championship more satisfying to have? Of course.. 1000%. But would we still claim the AP championship if the roles were reversed? Absolutely. Don’t kid yourself. We lost 17-7 at home to a mediocre Florida team and put ourselves at the mercy of the BCS formula to where late night game in Hawaii helped determine our fate. If we’d have missed out but thrashed Michigan in the Rose Bowl and crowned the AP NCs, that 2003 banner would still be flying in Tiger Stadium.
But none of that is relevant to their baseball titles. The only answer is those titles are 100% legit, but you and everybody else is fee to weigh them in whatever you’re trying to weigh them in however you want.

It’s amazing USC hasn’t been to Omaha since 2001. They have really given up on baseball

Exactly. Thank you. I agree. “Oh. It was 1943. The World Series win doesn’t matter because it was 1943.”

The entire west coast has. The amount of SEC shortstops from the state of California is insane and in all honesty should never be like it is.

Ridiculous. USC is still good in baseball. It’s just ridiculously more competitive now. Thus my comment about how amazing it is that we won it this year. Think about what happened. We won the majority of games against the best rated competition in the country throughout the year.

Expecting one team to win it year after year isn’t realistic. NIL and a lot of things have tempered that. This isn’t football and even that sport is quickly becoming more equitable

why does usc suck in baseball now

Yes and man who led them to 11 of those was Rod Dedeaux, a native of New Orleans. I met his son once. Good family who are still proud of their Louisiana roots.

Just a good example how a coach makes a difference

There wasn’t much competition then. They are legitimate titles, BUT we don’t respect them.
Posted on 6/28/23 at 5:43 pm to ProjectP2294
I’m with Project. I still haven’t seen any argument saying why they aren’t legit.
It’s a silly discussion. Yes they are for the time period they were in. To debate that would be to debate ours.

One could argue it was easier to go on that kind of run in that era of college baseball due to limited popularity. However, it does not change the fact they had to actually earn it on the field.
Yes their baseball titles are legit. They won it on the field at the College World Series. It absolutely was easier to win the titles in the 70's than is was for LSU to win theirs in the 90's. That isn't their fault all they can do is play who was on the field against them. I would also say that 2009 and especially 2023 were much tougher to win that the 90's LSU title runs. It was Bertman in the 90's that elevated college baseball and made it the game it is today.

You don’t. Some of us do. Don’t lump all of us into your “we”.
I understand what you’re meaning but I don’t think everyone agrees.
