"Bleach did not sell well but received positive reviews from critics when it was first released"

Henderson, Lol; Stacey, Lee (2014). Encyclopedia of Music in the 20th Century. Routledge Books. p. 263
It is currently Sub Pop's best-selling album release to date.

Rolling Stone initially panned The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin I, Black Sabbath, Neil Young Harvest, and Exile On Main Street. For me it's probably Pink Floyd The Final Cut and Van Halen Diver Down.

I really liked it but I always called the title track Emotional Disco but otherwise had some underrated songs.
Summer Romance

"Let me Go" is incredible and has some of Keith's best guitar work.

Maybe
But after Nevermind hit it big, the perception was to avoid Bleach as you'd be disappointed. I picked it up and thought it was tight.

It became the best selling Sub Pop album, and I've never heard anyone say it was a bad album. Kerplunk became a huge seller after Dookie, very raw but that was generally liked as well.
Also the perception if any would be from hesitancy of the general population.. and those people aren't critics!

Strange Currencies is a top 3 REM song to me

I can agree with that take.
I think it's been reaccessed over time also and has been credited as actually being pretty good. Maybe I should have classified it as being "undeservingly ignored" during that period.
Negative Creep and Love Buzz are standouts.

Pitchfork are hardly critics - I feel sorry for anyone that takes them seriously, they are pretentious douchebags that rate albums for the main purpose of looking for clickbait.

The guy who wrote that one is/was the biggest of all.

Like I get that some people don't like Mumford & Sons, but giving their second album a score of 0.0 is obviously seeking attention over credible critiquing.
