California's Lake Oroville, one of the many important reservoirs in the West that reached critically low levels during the height of the megadrought, is now filled to the brim.

Before and after images of Enterprise Bridge offer a sharp comparison for Lake Oroville between July 22, 2021, and June 15, 2023, after the reservoir, the second-largest in the state, reached full pool for the first time since 2012 -- and only the second time in the past 15 years, according to the California Department of Water Resources.

In September 2021, water levels in Oroville dipped to their lowest ever at 628.47 feet, at just 24% capacity. As of Monday, water levels neared 900 feet -- more than 100 feet higher than this time last year. Not only are water levels at the lake currently measuring at 100% capacity, they are at 127% of where they should be around this time of year, according to the DWR.

Storage at Lake Oroville has risen more than 240 feet and gained more than 2.5 million acre-feet of water since Dec. 1, according to the DWR.

They will use all that water by August for farming and golf course management and be dry again and once again blame climate change.

Unfortunately it’s humans and population size that is the problem.

Anyone else automatically look at the empty lake and imagine where to fish when it’s full

California being California, I'm sure they'll piss it all away just like last time.

They don’t die when it’s low they just live in the river channel. Eta some will but I’d imagine there’s a population that lived in the river like any other lake draw down , planned or unplanned

Just a few years ago it's emergency spillway failed so I find this claim dubious.

Certainly more recently than 2012.

when it was low they should have been digging it deeper to hold more water. Never understand why that is never done

Happened in 2017, the statement could be disingenuous. But the Orville failure could have happened before full pool too. I forget the specifics. But the spillway failed due to the volume of water release on the spillway wo prevent catastrophic failure of the embankments.

There are some good YouTube docs on it.

If they were smart they'd find a way to capture all the piss from the homeless population and repurpose it.

Massive amounts of red tape when "disturbing" the bottom of a lake.

As far as the fishing goes there is something called "New Reservoir effect" which makes fishing outstanding but I didn't see much structure on that lake but a good example of this effect would be O.H. Ivie that has been producing 13+ lb bass routinely in the past two years.

100% Accurate! I have seen this happen three times over when I used to live there.

Look at those stupid little shrubs that thought they could grow, only for the water level to rise right back over them.
