My two daughters (no pics) are planning a trip, any tips on where to stay and how to get around would be appreciated.

How old? If I were them I’d stay in Ballston or Clarendon. Easy to get into the city and it’s where the under 30 crowd wants to be.

30 and 26 but not really a party type. One is a teacher so I think they want to see the sights.

Ok. How long are they planning on being in DC?
You want a place that is close to the many DC sites but probably down in the DC Mall area. My guess.
Will they have a car?

If they are staying downtown, they can use the metro for everything.

Even if you're not staying downtown. That metro runs everywhere.

Metro is on time, clean, and safe. Don't stay in Anacosta. Alexandria is super nice. Last time we were in DC you had to ride the Metro then a bus to get there. But I think it was because they were doing repairs to the Metro.

Georgetown is a nice area. Plenty to do in the neighborhood but would have to Uber/metro to see the sights.
I was there in February with my family and we stayed near the Wharf. It is an up and coming area with restaurants and a marina. About a 20 min walk to the Mall.

I lived in DC four years and have gone on business many times since. My personal favorite is Old Town Alexandria. There are things to do and places to eat easy walks from many hotels. Metro gets you into central DC. More fun is the water taxi that takes you to the interesting DC waterfront. Be warned that walking distances on the Mall between museums, Congress, monuments, etc are quite long. Call Uber. Hop-on/off bus tours are a good idea too. Air & Space is the best museum, unrivaled in the world...plenty of other great free museums. In the summer there are many free evening concerts...ask at your hotel.

They can book a Capitol Tour and a Whitehouse Tour through their Senators or Representative.

Check out the Wharf area along the Potomac. Newer development of hotels, restaurants, bars etc all within walking distance of each other. Enjoyed my stay there last year.

This has been my experience over the years, although I am told that it is less clean and safe than it used to be.
