Why are you deadlifting?
It’s super risky with minimal reward in the laypersons world. Hell, most competitive sports avoid it due to injury risk factors.
Those are basically the words of Robert Oberst. I agree with Obie unless you are competing in powerlifting/Strongman straight bar DLs don't make much sense on the risk/reward scale. This is certainly an issue with a LOT of disparate opinions.

I was wondering the same thing. I squat 405 for reps and only deadlift 135 just for some posterior chain maintenance. Heavy deads make no sense.

sometimes i want it to hurt
plus, I know how to do them properly and safely. You can't fake the look you get from heavy deads and pendlay rows.

no it isnt if you know how, keep the reps low and focus on form.

It comes easy.
When I go to connect a grader box or blade, it's easier to just be able to move it if I didn't back up perfectly.
I had a thoracic injury about 10 years ago. After a year of physical therapy and listening about not lifting anything above 30lbs... I was in constant pain and fat as shite.
After building the muscles in my lower and middle back, I wake up every day mostly pain free. Had I continued to listen to that idiot at BRBJ I'd likely be barely able to walk.
Oberst isn't fit to give advice to anyone. He was always plagued with injuries and shite performances. Why rogan even interviewed him as opposed to brian shaw is mind boggling.

In my 40s, didn't DL for years but started back 12 or so years ago. Focus on form and it will be the most impactful lift as you age. I never do a working set of more than 5 reps, use mainly overhand grip, sometimes will switch to reverse on my heaviest set. If my grip fails that's my body saying that is enough today.
