Y’all need to stop this. Anyone can beat you on any day in Omaha. If Jay pitched Skenes against Tulane, he’ll do it against anyone, especially USM

You absolutely CAN NOT fall into the losers bracket after one game. Use Skenes to pummel whatever poor SOBs come out of Hattiesburg and worry about game 2 before game 2. Wake will almost certainly burn Lowder in game 1 too. We won’t be outgunned with Floyd on the hill in game 2

why not? why do people keep saying this? if we lose in the marbles with Floyd we are in the EXACT SAME SPOT

roll the dice with Hurd/Floyd in game 1 so that we'll have Skenes for marbles game vs the unanimous #1 ranked WF.

if we lose that gamble in game 1, then we have Skenes in an elimination game anyway to get us back to the loser of the marbles game

CPM was crucified on this board for pitching Poche over Lange in game one of the CWS in 2015.

And that team had a number 2 guy you actually trusted week in and week out.

back in 2015 you could get away with 2 pitchers if you stayed in the winners bracket. the tourney is 2 days shorter these days

You pitch Skenes game 1 so you can use him sooner. There’s a day in between each game played.

LSU plays Saturday, some game 2 would be Monday. That means you’re further along in the tournament before Skenes is available again.

Skenes is at 188
Ben had 202 I believe. So 14 to tie. 15 to surpass.

If he gets 2 starts, that record’s cooked.

Game 1 sets the mindset for the team.

Win game 1 with Skenes, everyone feels good and confident, and you come out expecting to win again.
Lose game 1 with anyone, you are panicked and desperate not to go 2 and BBQ. People will press, not likely to settle in and play relaxed.

Skenes game 1 is the team's security blanket. It's worked all year, and Johnson made a point to go with that in the regional.

Do you want to face Tanner Hall or Chase Dollander in game 1, with not your best guy?

There's 2 options: Saturday-Saturday or Saturday-Thursday-Monday.

I'm not sure if they would do the 4 days/3 days rest option or not. Ideally we start 4-0 and don't even have to make the desperate decision and then just have to win 1 out of 2 without him for the title.

WF has 3 i'd rather not face w/o our best

besides, we've already seen both of these guys (TH last yr)

I think Johnson has shown his pitching strategy of maximizing Skenes innings pitched.

He will pitch as early as possible

People saying don't start Skenes in game 1 are crazy. Tennessee/USM are a whole lot closer to Wake Forest than Tulane was to Oregon State. 4 seeds in regionals are generally not good. Everybody in Omaha is relatively close. Also, a regional is over 4 days. Omaha is over 11 days. You pitch your ace as early as possible so you can pitch him as much as possible or with as much rest as possible over 11 days.

Jay said today on Mik’d Up that “Skenes isn’t done. We have him for two or three more starts.”

Was anyone actually suggesting he was done?

disagree. Wake, LSU, Florida are tier 1

Texas/Stanford, UVA, Tennessee, TCU are the next tier.

Then USM

Then Oral

It's only 11 days now (not 13).

i've already laid out why we wont get 3 starts of the Skenes. We are probably not bringing him back on 3 days rest to start for the if-necessary game 3 championship Monday.. maybe in relief at best

I have not heard this. I was prepared for UK to call Skenes in during the 9th last night!

I could definitely see a relief appearance or a short start if it’s for a championship.I guess it would depend on the pitch count was high the game before. 90 or so pitches the game before and I’m letting him run out 30-40 pitches to get #7.

Game 1 95 pitches (we will be ahead 8-1, so pull him)

Game 3 112 pitches (leave him out there as long as it's necessary)

Game 3 of championship 85 pitches (give us 5 or 6 innings)
