Deer, my farm here has been getting worse and worse past few years. This is the first yr I can think of that I didn't have a buck I knew I was going to hunt coming into the year. Too many people killing young bucks all around me and not enough people killing doe. I've got points for Iowa but wanted to try Kansas this yr. May go out next month for a few days and try to find some properties to hunt.

I can see how killing young bucks would definitely put a dent in big buck population, but how does killing does help get more big bucks?

Doe's will keep coming into heat until they get preggos. Bucks will continue to run them while they got the twat snot. So they'll run themselves down so bad that some just can't come back from it. They are eating very little while chasing, ideally you have a couple weeks in November to breed most then all that aren't will get theirs in December then the bucks can go back to normal and try to get some weight back up before it gets too cold. Other reasons but thats a big one.

Do you have to draw a tag to hunt Kansas as a non resident? Are there outfitter tags or anything like that? I remember seeing that you could purchase tags if you're a non resident landowner. Haven't researched that state very much.

I'm not sure how it works for NR Landowners, but you apply in April. You get 4 choices to pick from different units and bow,ML, gun. From my understanding the gun season can be pretty lack luster because of timing. I got in on some properties in Missouri too. So ideally I can hunt in Kansas and tag out before Missouri Gun season opens then go there fir those 2 weeks which are in middle of November.

We could buy Kansas transferable landowner tags years ago. They changed that. You need to draw.

Not yet! Killed a nice 8 point in Allen Parish last weekend. I’m headed to Kansas on Oct 27th and staying until Nov 6th/7th.

When you headed up?

Ahhh.. we’ll be there at the same time. Do you know where you’re staying yet?
