you want a revolver.
Reason?

I based this decision on two of my friends advice. One is a retired state trooper the other is a retired game warden. They said if you don't carry a firearm on your side daily, you want a revolver.
Likely because revolvers don't fail, pull the trigger and it goes bang. No matter the semi, there's a chance it will jam, plus revolvers don't need maintenance or cleaning. Additionally, the chances you'll get in a firefight with the Taliban while driving around the burbs are pretty low.

Seems like every thug in MS that get's arrested is packing a Glock with a switch and extended mag

I was just stating the rationale. Personally, I don't carry a weapon in my truck most of the time (I just don't need it where my travels take me), but when I do take one it's a Glock 17 with several 20 round mags on the ready.

This is true, and it’s why I carry a revolver in the woods. I’m not as worried if it gets wet or dirty, but in a truck you shouldn’t have to worry about that.
One big disadvantage the revolver has in a truck is that there are very few mounting options.

There is a story the the advocate about the LA legislature beefing up the State machine gun laws to combat the glock switches. Under the current law a machine gun is defined as any gun that can fire 8 or more rounds with a single pull of the trigger. Some of these hoodrat guns jam before the 8 rounds buuuurrr.
If the gun malfunctions they can’t charge for possession of a machine gun. Also if you’re caught with a Glock switch not connected to the gun it’s not illegal under state law at the moment.
The US attorney isn’t prosecuting small time thugs for possession.

I live in Collierville, TN. Burb of Memphis.
There was a mass shooting in Kroger in my town a couple of years ago. Disgruntled work came in shooting with an AK.
Had someone with a gun had been there, they might have stopped it. Would you rather have 6 or 15 on a guy moving around in a grocery store?
You never know what you might need. Myself, I’m carrying a semi that I’m familiar with and know that it goes bang when I pull the trigger. Can it jam? Yes, but I can clear that in a matter of seconds.
You have a revolver, and it’s taking longer to reload.

I would carry an AR but moving it to the house every night would be a PIA.
It’s no more of a PIA than taking your pistol into the house.
If you plan on leaving your pistol in your vehicle and it winds up stolen and used in a crime, you should face some liability for being careless.
That Allie gal that was murdered sitting at railroad tracks was likely killed using a stolen gun. Plenty of outrage on the OT forum about her death, I’m a bit surprised more people aren’t suggesting you don’t leave a gun in your vehicle.

If someone breaks the window on your house and steals your gun should you also be held liable for being careless?

Nothing wrong w/ the XDM, but my truck guns tend to run on the lower end of the price spectrum. Mine is a Canik TP9 SF. It came w/ 2 18 round mags. If you think you might want to cc your truck gun some day, another option would be the Canik SC Elite. When hunting or outdoors, I alternate cc between the Elite and Taurus G2C. My Elite came w/ a serviceable OWB/IWB Kydex holster. The 2 Caniks share the same action so the 18 round mag from the SF will run in the Elite. The Taurus would be a good option as well, especially if you want to conserve money. I like my 2 Caniks and the Taurus. Ive read, but can’t confirm, the Canik magazines will run in the Taurus, including the 18 rounder.

I leave my pistol in my truck always. In a locked console safe. And my truck is parked in a closed garage.
That being said, no, if someone breaks into your car you should not face consequences for them stealing your stuff. That’s just stupid.
Along the lines of a shooting victim going after the gun company for getting shot using that companies gun.
Don’t be stupid.

There’s no doubt that taking a gun out of a vehicle is the best thing to do… but that’s not always practical, and saying that people should be punished for being robbed is no way to convince people to store their gun responsibly.
Lockboxes aren’t perfect, but they’ll likely prevent a smash and grab which is why anyone considering leaving a gun in their vehicle should be using one. There’s not enough people that understand that the vast majority of guns on the street are coming from vehicle burglaries. Hopefully, the more people that understand this will start doing a better job to store their guns responsibly.

If it’s not secure? Sure. Along with rights come responsibilities. If you’re going to own a gun, you should at least secure it.
Overwhelming number of guns stolen aren’t secured. They’re left laying around, easy to grab by a thief. Way too many people leave a pistol in a glovebox or console that can be popped open with a screwdriver.
I’m not saying if your gun is stolen you should be tried as accessory to murder. But there should be some sort of liability if you DGAS and leave it easily accessible.

I keep a few guns in my house outside of a safe not really secured in any fashion. We don't have young kids anymore. I don't want to fiddle with some safe if I need to get to a firearm reasonably quick.

Everything you just posted is exactly what gun grabbers say.
I am sure you also feel like no one should own an AR because it’s a “weapon of war.”
