People wonder why golf has fallen so low. When you have this from the best players in the world what would you expect.
Golf is about as strong as it has ever been. Country clubs are thriving again, PGA is as competitive as ever and money is flowing freely into golf throughout the world for sponsorships and advertising.
Tiger wore a mock neck, which is hideous. Trends change and younger generations don’t love the boring look of paw paws.

Where is the data to support this?
It wasn’t even 5 years ago where we saw lagging numbers with country club golf membership.

We are increasing our initiation fees because we have the membership has grown.

Try to use your imagination. Will they be wearing jeans soon?

COVID was the best thing to happen to golf since Harry Vardon won the US Open in 1900. My club is approaching 500 members (up from less than 300 several years ago) it’s funding a bunker redesign and we just redid our practice area in the last year. Clubs are booming man.

Is it sustainable or is it all cyclical and in 10-15 years it will no longer be booming?

Tons of data out there on overall growth in golf. The rounds played metric has shown consistent, sustained growth compared to pre covid. It has held up despite easing restrictions over last 2 years.
Anecdotally, my club went from no waitlist to 6mos at least for full membership. Just about all others I know of are the same. Huge part of the growth seems to be young crowd. Golf social media evidences this pretty well. It certainly appears that the game is positioned for long term success.

I totally understand the growth but no one is acknowledging the cyclical nature of this.
Early 2000’s when Tiger was dominating the PGA Tour we saw a huge growth in the popularity of golf but also the booming of new courses that were being built.
Around 2010 or so it kind of faded away and golf struggled for years.
Things have an ebb and flow to them and golf is no exception.

Every time I see that logo on Phil I swear it’s “FAF” or Frat as frick.
Which completely works.

I agree that it could be cyclical, but the 2000s is just one cycle. Who knows if the downturn was anomaly. Also, this is why I pointed to the social media aspect, indicating more adoption by younger people. Golf is generally a game that becomes more prevalent as people go up in age. I think that's a good sign that it's a lasting boom

Game’s been around for 400 years and grown pretty consistently with typical up and downs depending on a number of factors. The long term trend line has been growth.
The smart country clubs are adapting their model, especially off course, to accommodate modern family life.

Post Covid Clubs are better than in last 15 years
After Covid a lot changed. Boats and golf thrived. Even clubs that don’t have higher membership are raising dues. A lot of public course are just so overcrowded that many decided to go to private courses.
You mentioned HCC in another thread, they have seen a lot of growth, raised dues and are raising initiation fees by $5k in the next three months. ClubCorp has raised dues about 30% in the last two years. BRCC is as hard as it has ever been to become a member. University Club is overcrowded to the point some members won’t even try to play on weekends. I’m sure that is not uncommon at many places now.

I believe this will be determined by the rate of inflation. There are a lot of poors that can't afford the price of a country club much less an $80 round on the weekend. As the economy goes, so goes golf.
