Me and 7 other padnas went down to Delhi two weekends ago for our annual golfing trip. Stayed in the "hotel" on the grounds and had one hell of a time. I would 100% recommend this place for a weekend golf get-a-way. The course was in good shape (you could tell they were going through a few renovations) and the food at the diner there was 10/10. Beer was cold too

If black bear was built 30 miles east or west, it would be a top 5 course in the state….easily.

Black Bear is a cool track. A hidden gem a lot of people aren't aware of. Nice accommodations too. Also, if a group of baws wanted to do a fish/golf combo, you could rent a cabin on the lake, golf and fish your arse off...

Agree 100%. What is weird is how people are wired different depending on where you live. In Houston, you think nothing of driving 45 minutes to an hour to go play a course. You live in Monroe and it is like driving to the other end of the planet to go play Black Bear when it is about 45 minutes or so depending on how risk averse you are on speeding down 20.

I really enjoy playing there. Very nice course and layout. I think a couple of years ago they were replacing sand in the traps and it was like they either ran out of money or just said frick it and stopped but they left a bunch of fairway traps pretty much barren. What did they ever do with those? Just let it fill in?

Sodded most of the fairway traps and made them grass bunkers. Kept the green side bunkers sand. They put entirely too many traps on the course in the beginning. Then they realized how labor intensive they were....

We played 18 holes on Friday afternoon, and 36 holes on Sunday. I still haven't played a round since

There’s a public course on Grenada Lake like this. Great layout, but they’ve let the bunkers go to where they’re basically waste areas.

First time I played it, the dude in the clubhouse goes “We have 137 bunkers, none of them have sand.” I was like uhh okay… They’re just all washed out and grown up in native shite. It’s just odd. I just pull the ball out when I occasionally hit one in one of these bunkers because I’ve found rocks in them.

But if they’d take a third of those bunkers and re-sand them, and then figure out a way to make the others grass bunkers, it would be an exceptional opportunity to have a great public course within 25-50 miles of a lot of golfers.

This was my home course in 2010-2012 when i lived in Monroe for a few years. Made the 45 minute drive and the 50 dollar green fee was incredible for the layout and course conditions baxk then. Not sure what it is now but that course was much better than anything they had down in south Louisiana. Glad it’s still in good shape from the sounds of it.

Coming from Baton Rouge for a weekend trip, is there a course on the way that is worth a stop or would it be better to play Black Bear twice?

You could stop in Natchez and play Beau Pre or Duncan Park. Beau Pre being the nicer of the two. There are 4 9-hole courses spread thru the delta. Panola Woods in Ferriday (may be members only), Lake Bruin CC, Tallulah CC, and Lake Providence CC. The latter 3 you should be able to play.

Black Bear was cheap, the carts were brand new, and the course was in great shape. I'd def consider playing it twice.
