Biltmore with kids

Anyone ever do it?
Trip is paid for through my wife’s work and leaving the kids at home for a week is a no go. Kids are 8 and I can bring them pretty much anywhere and expect them to behave.
We’ve got a pretty full list of stuff planned but anyone have any must do’s off site?
We have a rental car so transportation isn’t an issue.

They’ll enjoy it. I’ve been going since I was a child. There’s a swimming pool and bowling alley in the basement. They’ll like that. The gardens will be nice for them to get outside a bit and use up some energy.
I always recommend visiting the Grove Park Inn while in Asheville. The Grove Park welcomes/encourages visitors that are not guests to come check out their grand lobby and terraces. It’s a nice place to grab a local Asheville beer flight and enjoy the views from the back terrace.

Kids will love the Biltmore. My parents have a place nearby and they're members so we go and explore whenever we're up there.
For the adults, the wine tasting is serious and you'll leave feeling pretty good. Tons of shops and things for the kids at Biltmore Village and the house and grounds are great to explore. They'll enjoy it for sure

My parents just came back from Asheville and said that there is apparently a kids audio tour of the house that was apparently popular. I haven’t been in years, but you used to be able to rent bikes out there too so that may be something they would like.

The last time we went to Biltmore we did the roof top tour, it cost extra, but kids might enjoy that. The guide takes you to places you don’t see except on the tour - such as the roof and the balcony on the front of the house.
There are other extra cost tours too you might check out.
You didn’t say when you are going or what you have planned but here are few ideas.
About an hour south west of Biltmore is Brevard and there are waterfalls & hikes nearby as is sliding rock.
Sierra Nevada Brewery is between Biltmore & Brevard and they have a restaurant and outdoor area that is very nice. They also have walking trails but you need reservations for some.
Chimney Rock State Park is about an hour southeast of Ashville - trails and the iconic chimney rock.
Mt. Mitchell State Park is about an hour northeast from Asheville; up the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stop at the BRP visitor center just east of Asheville and get ideas of places you might want to see that are nearby.
There are other extra cost tours too you might check out.

I would go heavy on side activities. Biltmore is not a place I liked touring at 30. It's a huge museum basically and a monument to failure and silliness. It was built not by one of the tycoons who built an empire, but by a descendant obsessed with image. It basically bankrupted that wing of the family and they've had to sell off parcels of the property over the years just to keep it open.
Lots of good hiking and activities in the area. I loved visiting as a kid.

We with with friends who had a 1 month old. Had no issues. Saw lots of families with children there too and they seemed fine. The setup is fairly professional and organized so if the kids are relatively behaved it shouldn't be an issue.
Asheville seems more like a young adult/hippie town with little shoppes around. I think kids can get by but it's definitely geared more towards adults.

Solid list.
If you end up down south of Asheville both Hendersonville and Saluda have some cool downtown areas to walk around (Hendersonville is bigger than Saluda) with shops, toy stores, ice cream parlors etc.
Also, Chimney Rock/Lake Lure is nearby

All more fun (and way cheaper) than going to the Biltmore.

This trail is nice, but be aware that it is very poorly marked and not very well maintained. There is a left turn you have to make to get to the waterfall at the end and it is very easy to miss. No marker is there, but someone did make an arrow with rocks on the ground
if you miss it, you'll spend some time wandering the woods. photo of arrow, I hope this works
Honestly, if you're looking for waterfalls, I'd suggest going to DuPont instead.

When we visited, they had a kind of scavenger hunt for the kids to help them get engaged by finding things along the tour. I don't know if they still do that.

Your kids will love Tweetsy Railroad if you are up for a two hour drive from Asheville. I loved going to Cherokee as a kid too.

If you take BRP west from Asheville you will pass the Mt. Pisgah Summit Trailhead. A little further west the BRP intersects with Hwy 276. Go south toward Brevard and you will pass several hikes, waterfalls or hikes to waterfalls. I think the Looking Glass Trail is off of 276.
And sliding rock. See the attached video. It is usually more crowded than that and the parking lot fills up in the summer.
Continue south on 276 and it intersects with Hwy 280 which is just east of Brevard. Go east toward I-26 and you will pass near the Sierra Nevada Brewery.

Sierra Nevada is super cool and lots of families with kids running around are out there during the weekend. Also, the restaurant on-site is pretty good

I glanced at this and I thought Baltimore.. how your kids will love it.. I was thinking why in the world would kids love Baltimore? Then I realized it was Biltmore
