Rolling Stone: ‘F–king Disgrace’: CNN Gifts Trump Primetime Campaign Rally

One CNN insider who spoke to Rolling Stone called the evening “appalling,” lamenting that the network gave Trump “a huge platform to spew his lies.”
quote:
Nevertheless, the town hall was “a fricking disgrace,” in the words of another network insider. “1000 percent a mistake [to host Trump]. No one [at CNN] is happy.”
“Just brutal,” added one of the network’s primetime producers.
quote:
CEO Chris Licht acknowledged “that there has been people with opinions and backlash” during an editorial call Thursday morning — but he stood by the decision. “I absolutely unequivocally believe America was served very well by what we did last night,” he said. CNN’s own media reporter, Oliver Darcy, didn’t seem to agree. “It’s hard to see how America was served by the spectacle of lies that aired on CNN Wednesday evening,” he wrote in his newsletter the previous night.
quote:
Team Trump certainly felt the boss’ campaign was well served by the spectacle. Even before the conclusion of the town hall’s first hour, the reactions within Trump’s circle were universally joyous. Some close aides to the ex-president were almost baffled that the night went that well for them, according to sources in and close to the campaign. “We want to thank CNN for their generous donation to President Trump’s campaign!” one Trump adviser said late on Wednesday.
“[Trump] should literally do this every night,” one operative working closely with the Trump 2024 team said about an hour into the live event. “Nightly CNN hits!”

When an outlet with a history of bullshite stories and putting terrorists on the cover like they are rock stars loses their shite like this… you hate to see it.

Seems like CNN is still just as pathetic

It infuriates me that Rolling Stone is still allowed to exist after that fake gang rape story they published.

This line of thinking is dangerous. People get violent whenever beliefs and opinions are stifled.
Shutting your political opposition out of the public square is how you get pitchforks.

Don’t know how these clowns survive, must be lots of Hollywood weirdos subscribing. Or ppl like my grandma who is nice and answers the door to magazine sales. I’m 35, white, and rural and she’s signed me up for GQ before
Them, Boy Scouts, and other fundraisers know she’ll buy all kinds of random shite.

I'm still of the belief that Democrats want Republican voters to get violently angry. It would give them the excuse to truly crack down on dissenters like every communist does.

Mission accomplished: they fired up their base against Trump again.
Mission accomplished: they fired up their base to support Trump against progfilth again
Both the MAGA crowd and the leftists will leave the night better off whether they know it or not. The people stuck in the middle and conservatives not wanting to support Trump again are yet again left frustrated.

There is so much Trump hate inertia built up over the last 7 years at CNN it's going to be very difficult for the new CEO Chris Licht to change course. It seems like Licht is trying to make the network more centrists and he is encountering a lot of pushback. I do give him credit for allowing people like Byron Donalds to go on air and give his opinions against a panel of leftists and Never Trump Republicans.

the swamp runs vvvv deep. it is sickening. Does anyone watch Gowdy and Chaffetz on Fox News?
is there a large enough group of Rick Wilson's to give them or Hannity any ratings? Or do they just do MSNBC now?

I didn’t watch it. But from this I take that he did very very well. I’m glad he brought his A game.

Honestly, I believe CNN wants Trump to run for the following reasons:
1. Ratings. Trump hate brings in viewers.
2. Perception of apathy. In the event that it’s a Biden V. Trump race, they’re banking on some serious voter apathy and a lot of people staying home. I suspect they believe a number of people will look at battling octogenarians and say frick it. Low turn out favors incumbents.

Morning Joe
CNN's town hall with Trump "was just disgraceful on every level," @JoeNBC says.
"The most shocking part" was seeing an audience "lapping it up."
"What I saw last night was as chilling as anything I've seen on television since January the 6th."

I have been a devoted CNN viewer for many years. I have no problem with CNN trying to move more towards straight news, but this Town Hall is not straight news. It is a Trump rally. I am done with CNN.

??????BREAKING: Officer Michael Fanone CONDEMS CNN for hosting Trump’s town hall this evening.
“CNN Is hosting a town hall for a guy who tried to get me killed,” he wrote. Donald Trump tried to end American democracy.
Fanone didn’t hold back:

Everyone who cares about our democracy needs to shun @CNN and anyone connected with the network's embrace of fascism, sexual assault and racism. Block the channel. Identify their sponsors and boycott them into bankruptcy.
CNN should shut down for 90 days & just have a CGI of someone reading the news. They would have better ratings.
Fire every single person working there
Then hire people with class & manners who reject Marxism/communism in all its forms & who actually like the USA
CNN is basically saying, “We don’t care if he destroys the whole country. He’s great for ratings.”
Shame on them. Forever. I will never forgive them for this. Jim Acosta and Anderson Cooper need to get the hell out of there.
I didn’t watch CNN tonight. I haven’t seen any clips yet but judging by reactions on Twitter truth & democracy were slaughtered.
Remember, Chris Licht chose the 20-something from the Daily Caller.
CNN executives could’ve used Jim Acosta or Dana Bash.
CNN did this by design
