Sea levels continue to rise around the globe, including in Florida | Fact check

The claim: Sea levels haven't risen in centuries, proving climate change is a hoax

An April 20 Instagram post (direct link, archived link) features an image of a Florida man in a convertible with the ocean in the background.

“Great view of the sea levels that haven’t risen in centuries!” reads the caption of the post. “Climate change is a HOAX.”

The post garnered more than 100 likes in two weeks.

Our rating: False
Sea levels have been rising in Southeastern Florida and around the world for more than a century, according to long-term tide gauge data. Researchers say the rate of sea level rise near Palm Beach, where the picture was taken, is rapidly rising and will continue to do so. Scientists have found unequivocal evidence human activity is causing the Earth to warm at an unprecedented rate, accelerating sea level rise.

Sea levels rising in Florida and around the world
The post indicates the photo was taken in Palm Beach, Florida, but does not specify whether it is referencing global or local sea levels.

In either case, sea levels have been rising for decades.

On average, global sea levels have risen by about 6 to 8 inches over the past century, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. That rate of sea level rise continues to increase and has more than doubled since 2006.

While there is no long-term tide gauge data for Palm Beach, data from nearby Virginia Key – located about 70 miles south – shows sea levels there have risen more than a foot in the past century, said Jianjun Yin, a professor of geosciences at the University of Arizona who recently published a study on sea level rise along the U.S. East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico.

You should stop with the facts and evidence! You know that means nothing the climate change idiots. They just "know" the sea levels are rising because of the fools that tell them so.

The same elites and politicians who fear monger about rising oceans all own beachfront property in Martha’s Vineyard and elsewhere so until they stop buying I’ll continue to believe it’s all fake.

Same with the politicians and elites all flying private jets all over the world while preaching climate change

I believe this once insurance companies stop insuring beach front properties.

The Monroe County, Florida Board of Commissioners has only five Republican commissioners and they are trying to raise the sales tax in Monroe County to pay for sea level rise projects. In recent months they have voted to abandon roads they don’t want to raise. This means if your house is on that street you are on your own. They have also created special taxing districts to have only local residents pay for sea level rise projects. People who live in places like Stillwright Point in Key Largo are looking as a special assessment of $5k+ per year to pay to keep water off their streets during high tide. Lots of these million dollar homes were bought by retirees and they’re kind of stuck with them.
The Monroe County BOCC spends 75% of all meetings dealing with sea level rise issues.

The Gulf of Mexico would reach Arkansas before Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket flooded. They are basically mountains sticking out of the Atlantic Ocean.
You should visit there sometime as the summer is gorgeous, but they are far from “sea level”

Settled science

Everyone should now know, all you need to do is pay money to the right "scientists" to create a false data report.

Just as Fauci paid a group that was saying Corona was a lab leak, and then after payment from Fauci, reversed their claim.
