Dallas Mavs - a very popular franchise?

I went to the mall today for the first time in ages and as I was walking around the mall (in Atlanta) I kept noticing kids wearing Dallas Mavs jerseys, shirts, hats, etc
I must have saw 20 different people wearing Dallas Mavericks apparel
I never knew the Dallas Mavs were such a popular franchise.
I know this isn’t breaking news or anything but I just thought this was very interesting to see this in a city that has a basketball team

Atlanta malls are known for having a lot of honky kids. I could see it being a big euro step kinda town
