According to Tigers coach Jay Johnson, Guscette was conscious as he was carried off the field and was taken to the hospital. Alabama coach Brad Bohannon also gave an update after the game.

quote:

"He's alert and doing well," Bohannon said Sunday. "They'll run some tests and make sure he's OK. With the information that I have, we think that Mac is going to be OK."

Best wishes for the guy. That was an unlucky bounce to hit square like that.

I am surprised we didn't have better logistics on the spot.

Acadian Ambulance used to have a crew on standby at The Box, but I haven't seen them this year.

My nephew took a ball to the neck as a catcher in a high school game a week or so ago. Passed out on the way to the hospital. They said it was his body overreacting to pain/stress (vasovagal syncope or vagal response). Gave him an IV, ran some tests and he was fine.

Hopefully Guscette gets the same good report and is back to himself soon.

I agree. Seemed like there was some confusion on what to do

Good to hear. That was scary. He looked like he was walking it off and the his knees buckled. Like a boxer that took one on the chin.

Also Tiger fans classy as usual. Place went silent, then cheers each time he showed improvement.

There’s an ambulance on scene for every sanctioned sporting event on LSU’s campus. 0% chance there wasn’t one there today. It wasn’t called out.

You know at the end of the day it’s still a game kids are playing. Glad to hear he’s going to be ok.

Does anyone know exactly what was the injury? I know he was hit in the throat area....

Good luck to that young man!

Would hope bama gets the catchers' mask with the neck guard. Surprised, thought they were standard, required masks.

Good to hear.

A kid playing in a college game for Texas A&M-Texarkana caught a stray bullet today. He’s stable in hospital.

Baseball is dangerous.

Prayers to that young man and his family. Very serious situation he endured there. Had me very worried for his safety.
