One of the best comments I’ve read on the OB. I regret only having one upvote to give.

All I know about it was told to me by my wife’s uncle. He’s a historian and story teller. It was called the Walton War if I remember correctly and it was over a 12 mile strip of land that was given to Georgia in 1803 I believe. The state boundaries had never been officially determined so when GA established Walton County, North Carolinian settlers in the area went to war against the county government. Georgians killed an NC representative and Buncombe County, NC activated their militia in response. Eventually, the land was given back to NC and a man named Andrew Ellicot was commissioned by GA to figure out where the border actually should be. He carved NG into a rock in 1810(?) and that marked the border between North Georgia and NC.

I probably have my years wrong, but that’s basically what happened. Even today there’s still some confusion about where the border actually is.

I used to camp and trout fish in the area many years ago, beautiful area. I knew about Ellicot Rock, but didn't know the back ground story of the mini-war. Very interesting. Hillbillies don't frick around.

I just looked it up and apparently in the 1970’s Georgia tried to stir things up again

Reading about it too, apparently Georgia did get ripped off. Georgia agreed to cede colonial land (today's Alabama and MS) to the newly created federal government, and one of the things in exchange was Georgia would get the Orphan Strip. But the feds fricked up their paperwork.

The war started because settlers in the area were being asked to pay taxes to multiple governments. Back then, a tax collector literally went door to door to collect taxes and if you didn't pay, you were in trouble. Obviously that didn't sit well with the settlers.

The one casualty of the war was by musket, but not shot. He was beaten to death with it.

I hope Governor Kemp revisits this issue.

Man, these history stories are super interesting, thoroughly enjoying them, but I must ask, what in the heck do they have to do with keeping baby rabbits ?

My wife just bought a rabbit hutch on Amazon so I guess Plan F is in effect.

Today I noticed the rabbit spinning in tight circles then falling over, it's clearly retarded.

It doesn't like cucumbers, but loves romaine and strawberries.

I keep rabbits, but mine aren't wild hares. I raise New Zealand and TAMUK meat rabbits. That hare is probably full of worms and no telling what else. Best option would be to break it's neck and feed it to your dog.

I dispatch a clean over a hundred rabbits a year though. If I don't eat it, it will get ground into dog food. I would never consider keeping a wild hare, but they're a danger to my rabbits with disease.

Why do you call it a hare? Looks like a regular cottontail rabbit.

Hares are usually much bigger critters. Source: PBS show I’m watching “Remarkable Rabbits”

It's definitely an Eastern Cottontail, the juvi's all have a white streak on the head, just like this one.

Hard as I’ve tried, I’ve never been able to get a baby wild rabbit to make it. Best of luck to you.
