Prompted by the field conditions thread I think its time to discuss field turf in Tiger Stadium. I know purist would not agree but I think our field conditons are the great equalizer of the teams speed. We recruit some of the fastest althelets but still appear slow at times. I would love to give our players a nice pristine field turf and see if the speed and cuts increase. We are slowing our guys down with bad turf and to me there is no excuse for this.

We've had pretty crappy turf for a while, and our TS win/loss ratio is pretty damn stellar.

Though, I agree we've had too many slips this year.

Weird first post.

I think the problem is that we try to rehabilitate the field too damn much. It's like we replace the turf every other year or something. That just doesn't work.

Old grass is good grass.

Not a fan of turf in outdoor stadiums. I also don't think football should be played indoors, therefore I am not a fan of turf in indoor stadiums either.

I believe I saw both teams playing on the same turf last night.

If the grass is going to continue to look like this, I agree. I'd rather try to fix the problem rather than give up on it though. I just feel that outdoor stadiums should have natural grass.

No way. Do you know how hot that stuff gets? Besides, with Malveto on the case, the last thing we want is Percy Harvin on field turf against us next year.

Does this really matter? Both teams play on the same field at a given time. Unless a field is unplayable or the weather sucks and the field is sloppy and a fast player's ability to cut is affected, I don't see how this matters.

I believe we should take away the purple and gold endzones and just have big purple LSU outlined in gold. The green backdrops in endzones looks great.

Or

Go back to outlining the endzones in the opposite color. We use to have the purple endzone outlined in yellow and vice versa. That looked good.

He is hinting that LSU usually has faster athletes than its opponents. Poor field conditions hurt teams with speed; therefore their speed is some what negated which in turn eliminates their speed advantage. This phenomenon levels the playing field somewhat.

I dont know but I think it might. We played a decent Sunbelt team that looked like they had the same speed as the Tigers. I dont believe this is the case. I think poor footing can several affect the ability of top athletes. Maybe with better footing we could get better cuts, crisper routes, maybe juke someone out of there shoes for once.
