Well I think there might be an element who would appreciate a politician standing by his values firmly and who would vote for him based on that.
That said, I am a Trump and DeSantis fan. It troubles me that we can’t seem to agree to aim for Trump in 2024 setting up DeSantis in 2028. I think there is a lot to be said for letting Trump do the heavy lifting in 2024 and then bringing DeSantis as a clean up hitter in 2028.

There are no guarantees in life. DeSantis has no choice but to take this opportunity. He can't sit on the bench hoping for a shot. Chris Christie did that in 2012 and by 2016 he was a nobody. The timing may not be ideal but there's nothing that can be done about it.
Trump's at an age that if he were your father or grandfather, you'd seriously start thinking about taking away his car keys. He'll be 78 years old on inauguration day in 2025.
