I'm sure his bank account was definitely a deciding factor in his decision, but the man gave up the more lucrative position of back-up QB in the NFL (where he made $4 million just riding the bench in his final season) to being the starting QB for a burgeoning XFL franchise (where he's only making $60,000 this season).
The reason for the pay cut? He wanted his kids to be able to see him play the game before he retired completely from the sport.

A.J. must have a lot of dough for a career backup because that shite ain’t worth $4,000,000 vs. $60,000. The kids can watch dad play in preseason games.

Yea 4m is 2020 and 2021 is his last nfl paycheck.
