Most jaw dropping guitarist, Matteo Mancuso or Shawn Lane....or your personal pick.

Shawn Lane was a shredder from the 80’s and 90’s who passed away several years ago, he was a real fretboard demon….extremely fast and fluid.

Recently a new phenom has surfaced over the past several years named Matteo Mancuso who may be the most insane guitarist I’ve seen. With no plectrum this young man plays next level sweep arpeggios, complex finger tapped runs while mixing in every right hand finger picking technique known to man.

Which one of these two would walk away from a Crossroads Guitar style throw down victorious.

EVH was definitely an innovative guitarist.....not sure if he had the virtuosity or musical knowledge of a Shawn Lane or Matteo Mancuso....Maybe Guthrie Govan should be invited to the Crossroads Showdown.....he's a monster player.

There was a guy on the internet who analyzed every fast picker (at least as of 2009) and determined, with respect to alternate picking, Shawn Lane was indeed the fastest picker of all time. This ignores such picking as sweep picking and what he called "spasmodic arm picking" on one note, and it looks like he stopped it several years ago. Not sure if anyone has updated it since.

As for taste/note selection, I couldn't pick between these two but I haven't listened to a ton of it.

Discovering Allan Holdsworth in the 80s was definitely one for me.

I think I'd heard/seen some of Mancuso a bit before, but wow.

Here's a guitar battle between him & Andrea Braido on Chick Corea's "Spain", I don't think the other guy is at Mancuso's level except for speed though:

I know about Shawn Lane, but have never heard Matteo Mancuso until now. He’s really impressive!

Matteo's playing seems much more melodic. Lane might be faster by a little. But it just sounds like up and down runs. Scales even.

My son is a musician and introduces me to a lot of groups I’ve never heard of before. Polyphia has a guitarist, Tim Henson, who my son says is really good.
