Some of his best work in my opinion...

also, the Struggle Within solo is awesome too...

Of course most of it is out of tune, but thats just the way he plays...

Wherever I May Roam is one of the baddest arse songs on the Black Album. Have rocked out to it many times.

Agreed. Black Album has some awesome guitar work from KH, for me it’s his most interesting solos since Kill’ Em All. In the making of the Black Album doc, Bob Rock really clamped down and got him off his arse to really work out his solos before setting them down onto tape.

The best music documentary I’ve ever seen bar none. Don’t know how widely it’s known, but for any Metallica or music fan it’s a must. Wore out my VHS watching that cassette over and over and over.

Completely agree…total magic around that album, documentary, tour, the whole thing…it was all perfect.

Yes, everything was perfect! Caught them at the Assembly Center in BR for that tour (1992?) and they were amazing, just firing on all cylinders. What a set list it was.

The Roam solo is pretty bad tbh. E minor, wah pedal, repetitious little three note licks, and some basic tapping. Sounds just like 90% of his solos

plenty of better solos on Black album

He often gets lost in the history and scope of the band. The frontman's "issues", the drummer's image, the bass player tragedy/drama, the whole vibe around the band kind of dwarf this lead player with the wispy voice and apparently introverted nature.

Setting all criticism I might have of the band aside, he is an elite player that doesn't get enough credit in GOAT discussions. For my money, for that style, I still think that Satch is a better, more versatile choice, but I would have Kirk over Vai, Malmsteen, etc.

Kirk hasn’t been a true shredder since the Justice album. He started doing more bluesier work on the Black album & after. Go back & watch the Live in Seattle 89 show on the Justice tour. That was when he was a guitar God.

Fitting, as Kirk took some lessons from Satch.

Yes, June 1992. And they played UNO Lakefront Arena in Jan 1992 (one week after Guns played the PMAC). What a year!
