LIV had a disastrous showing(in person) yesterday

Pros
• Free parking.
• A little bit more interaction with the players if you want that kind of thing. You can tell they’re all told to mix it up with the fans.
• There was a solid crowd but more like a good Thursday at a PGA event so moving around and getting to good spots was easy.
• Nearly zero rules or people enforcing them. Ropes were more of a suggestion on many parts of the course. So almost no spots where you’re stuck for 10+ minutes behind ropes.
• Fantastic food trucks.
• There were neat areas for kids. Fun games and even this covered area with some sort of teacher doing what looked like science experiments and shite. A ton of families took advantage of this and seemed to enjoy the hell out of it.
• Cart girls driving around with food and booze
Some of these cons probably don’t have a ton to do with LIV itself and could be just local to OCN and the staff they had? Idk. But it was terrible.
Cons
• Parking was an unbelievable disaster. I pretty much bribed a cop to cut a full hour wait in line to about 40 minutes. Vehicles were getting stuck. Lines were held up as people had to exit their vehicles to lift cars and motorcycles out of sand. There was only one way in and not a single person working the event helped or changed the route.
• The amount of concessions was embarrassing and the waits in these lines were nearly an hour long. Maybe more. There wouldn’t be a single person in line NOT losing their mind and talking shite about the operation they were running.
• Cart girls were out of everything, at all times.
• The golf and entire feel of the event was so tangibly underwhelming. And you couldn’t go 10 minutes without hearing a group of people blasting LIV how terrible it was.
• A lot of people expected this huge, grandiose production and it was embarrassingly weak. Again, everyone there was speaking about it amongst themselves and very animated about it.
• EVERYONE getting alcohol was getting 2 or 3 drinks at a time because the lines were so slow. These lines were an impossibly long wait.
• Zero sense of urgency or even care from the players. The entire thing just lacked any relevance.
I had a blast. My girlfriend and I are going to enjoy anything we do together. And it was great to see the guys that left for LIV.
I don’t know if anything I wrote captures just how terrible the operation and atmosphere was, though. It was genuinely cringey and everyone was discussing it. The only thing I can think to compare it to would be a massive party at a friend’s that is promised to be the time of your life, then you show up to 6 people sitting around the living room with nothing to do.

I watched the highlights from round two on the website and I have to say I was surprised by the conditions of the course. It looked like a course I would play in the weekends.

Course did look like crap. Surprised the production value and vendors were poo. Wonder if they had more people than expected?
The tournament from a TV standpoint was good.

Thanks for a fair assessment.

quote:It was a solid amount. Definitely more than I thought. Maybe juuust a little less than a Friday Valspar crowd.
How many people?
And people were really excited about it. Which is why the overwhelming feeling was “what the hell, this is lame af.”
I’m sure expectations were a part of that. It seemed like a younger than PGA Tour crowd who was there to go wild. I’m not exaggerating when I say turning up at this event was nearly impossible unless you snuck in your own drinks.
There just seemed like a massive disconnect between how LIV has marketed itself, how the players act, and the product. There was a constant buzz about it.
I like OCN but it’s a Florida course that isn’t going to keep areas off the main playing areas pristine. I knew it wouldn’t show well on TV. It isn’t a course a professional tour should be turning up to.
Then add this feeling that there is no brand or influence out there. LIV’s branding is very aggressive and then you get out there and there isn’t even an ounce of that represented. It felt like a skeleton crew run event. A very cheap feel. And everyone felt it. Everyone.

Tried watching some on TV, couldn't take it after 15 minutes. The commentary, NASCAR looking leaderboard, and poor production were too much. Just doesn't look like a professional tournament.

OCN is a great golf resort. Panther Lake has been a Q school course for years. Was very surprised they did not choose the better course, but realized that Crooked Cat made more sense from a crowd and production angle.
Courses do have irrigation, so the burned areas were disappointing, but we have not had rain here for almost a month.
Nope did not go. No interest at all.

Thanks for the review. Great to heard from someone that attended. I was curious, was concession very expensive? And did Greg Norman mingle with the crowd like they like to show on their twitter page?

I totally agree. I tried to watch but saw zero interest, even with the golfers to my eye

So were the cart girls hot?

Played Mayakoba course 2 weeks ago. Greg Norman course where LIV held a tournament 6 weeks ago. Signage for LIV is everywhere. Free advertising I guess but it looks tacky!!!

Everything about LIV is tacky and tasteless. Not sure who their marketing and PR firm are but they are really out of touch with their fan base. Unless their fan base is the 35yo male with a functioning drug habit that still lives with his parents and buys designer fanny packs and works in IT and is one more late payment from getting his car repossessed.

Anyone attending a LIV deserves a crap experience. Let this abomination die

My girlfriend wore her Keopka shirt, a collage of a bunch of pictures of him. A fat guy approached her and said, “you part of the fan club?” She replied with “hell yeah I am, he hot as hell.”
He said “here, let me take a picture for my son.” After the took it he said, “his dad ain’t so bad either.”
It was Keopka’s dad
