One of those transitory kids - recruited/played for Mac then finished under Stovall. That was a strange time for LSU football that I actually remember fairly well.

Although they would be overshadowed, individually, in the coming years by the likes of Eric Hill and Michael Brooks, Joiner's senior year had him, Rydell Melancon, Lawrence Williams, Al Richardson and Gregg Dubroc as probably the strongest unit on the team, excepting the running backs, of course.

He played a big part in that 20-10 beatdown of Bama in Tuscaloosa in 1982 (I think it was 82)

Awfully young. That’s a shame.

It was 1982, but that game was (as many of our series were) in Birmingham. Recall the "big games", Iron Bowl, Tennessee and LSU were played in Legion Field quite commonly back in the day.

We played them at then just "Denny" Stadium in 1947 in Tuscaloosa and then played all our away games with them in either Mobile or Birmingham (Legion Field) until 1980. Then Birmingham again from 1982 until 1988.

I don’t think I have ever seen “he loved boudin and pickled eggs” in an obituary…sounds like a fun guy to me!

RIP Mr Joiner…

From the picture in the paper, it looks like he marched to the beat of his own drum. Good for him.
RIP, Mr. Joiner.

How do you know Tim and Ted. I grew up on Albert Drive in Goodwood Homesites. We used to carpool in grade school until we moved out of the subdivision and Ted went to Tara. They are really wonderful people.
