It's really simple.
Chromosomes.
We have XX or XY. It's not rocket science. Outliers equal about .3 to .6% of the global population, that may be born with an extra chromosome.
Ta-da! Science!
So there's male and there's female, with a biological, chromosomal outlier of <1%.
If this offends you, I am not sorry at all, and may GOD have mercy on your soul, if it is right that He should do so.

That's all correct, but it only addresses actual sex and not gender. Mostly because gender isn't scientific, it's a social construct.
