I’m looking for a band manager in Baton Rouge. We have a 3+ hour set of 90s-00s country covers and some country originals but I can drop those if needed. The band is lsu music kids and I have a full roster of subs so we can play any gig. We played a bunch of gigs last year and I’m looking to get this thing back on track

I guess I’m looking for a local tastemaker or whatever that can get us gigs. I’ll put up whatever money it takes to get started and the hypothetical manager can pay themselves however they like, I’m not trying to make money off this but my guys do need to get paid

I'll do it remotely from Alabama, if you pay up front.

I bet he can't resist trolling them on the telephone. That might be funny too.

Noooo booking gigs is the worst part

I would way rather pay somebody to do it. Why can’t I find somebody willing to make straight cash just to go to bars they already go to and get us gigs?

Ask the GM's or bookers at some clubs you like. Someone who has a good reputation with clubs can make a big difference.

Why don’t you reach out to J Hover who manages Beauvoir and get some ideas. He’s always been a big supporter of local music, but leaning towards original / songwriter stuff. Couldn’t hurt.

There are booking agents. They tend to take 20%. I know a few, but not for the genre of music that you play.

I’ll send a message to j hover and see if he’s interested

And kingbob that’d be fine if they take 20% they can just take my share

I’m gonna talk to some booking company in New Orleans tonight and I have a couple other ideas. I know I should give up on music and get fat and watch the bachelor at my age but it’s kind of fun I guess

ETA: I think the biggest issue is that the place doesn’t really make any money on you playing there it’s just lagniappe and the people would still be there without the bar having to pay a band

Not true, man. When a band is playing, people stay much longer and drink much more. I have played several shows at bars that have regular crowds where the night we played set the record for most drink sales they’d ever had for that night. That’s why bars do it.

If you’re not making money playing covers around BR, you’re not asking for enough money.
