Serious question. Have they ever tried to get it or do the keep themselves out due to being tied to non NATO members?

What do you think they would bring to the table for NATO?

Mexico took a pretty strong stance on non-aligned foreign policy in between the World Wars, and has stuck to it since.

Plus, at this point Mexico's systemic internal instability prevents it from meeting NATO membership criteria anyway.

We already have that...

Besides, they wouldn't be able to seize US Company assets in Mexico if they were members of NATO...

I don't know, apparently they are experts at evading American security or getting green cards by learning to say hi in English

NATO = North Atlantic Treaty Organization
Mexico isn't located in the Nort Atlantic. The purpose was bringing European countries together and stop spreading of communism.

Canada says hold muh beer. And if defeating communism is the primary purpose, why don't we have a treaty of nations where communism is actually a thing, like in Asia?

You didn't answer it correctly, though. Everything in the Atlantic basin north of the Tropic of Cancer is considered within the geographic "eligibility" of NATO.

That plainly includes Mexico.

Mexico isn't in NATO because neither side wants them in NATO.

Mexico does not follow US foreign policy AT ALL.

This has been true in history and it’s true today.

Their relationship with Russia is solid. They refuse to cancel over Ukraine.

I didn't make it up

quote:

Why was NATO founded?
The North Atlantic Alliance was founded in the aftermath of the Second World War. Its purpose was to secure peace in Europe, to promote cooperation among its members and to guard their freedom – all of this in the context of countering the threat posed at the time by the Soviet Union. The Alliance’s founding treaty was signed in Washington in 1949 by a dozen European and North American countries. It commits the Allies to democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law, as well as to peaceful resolution of disputes. Importantly, the treaty sets out the idea of collective defence, meaning that an attack against one Ally is considered as an attack against all Allies. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization – or NATO – ensures that the security of its European member countries is inseparably linked to that of its North American member countries. The Organization also provides a unique forum for dialogue and cooperation across the Atlantic.
