Hillar has been making the rounds in the media trying to get a new machinegun law on the books. There's already one on the books and I don't exactly get what's wrong with it.

LINK

Is it just that glock switches don't fit nicely into the law? Did the DA forget that it's illegal for felons to possess any gun, not to mention kill people?

Am I missing out on all of the fun these kids are having by putting glock switches on their stolen hanguns?

IDK why LA Shooters Association is putting their support behind this clown, but I'm more worried about the NRA agreeing with them.

This is question of federal law. Basically, there are legal ways for non-criminals to own some (but not all) machineguns and submachineguns. Doing it legally requires a lot of government red tape and a lot of expense.

Yeah I know it's against federal law, but apparently the feds don't care about the NFA violations here and aren't doing anything about it.

Hillar is trying to get Louisiana law changed and I don't know why, I think it's telling he won't release a draft bill that he's trying to get a sponsor for.

So if Hillar is saying Louisiana can't charge people with machinegun possession, and the feds aren't charging people, why are we letting the jr high criminals have all the fun? I want a glock switch too

Guns should be as unregulated as this man's waistline

Sounds like typical gun law BS, it's never in our favor

"let's amend laws so that our law abiding citizens are outgunned by thugs and felons"

not as much as you would think. The wait time is the pain in the arse though. True select fires are expensive though, yet they don’t depreciate

Actually... current LA law (because our state is so fricked up) has Machine Gun Possession listed under the Health and Safety Code Act and it's super hard to prosecute. I didn't know the ATF wasn't going after these cases. I can see him wanting to move the crime under the general Criminal Code.

I am 100% 2A and don't believe in more gun laws but I am against the average street thug illegally modifying a Glock with a $20 3 d printed part. They can't hit shite as it is, having them able to spray 30 rounds downrange in 3 seconds isn't the best idea.

Should we be able to legally buy and own them? 100% But I am also for prosecuting illegal ownership.

I realize this is not what you really want, but in Las Vegas I've rented submachine guns a couple of times--you shoot them full-auto at their range. It was a ton of fun, especially the Tommy gun. But it was expensive for how long it lasted--you see how much ammo costs these days, and you burn through it very quickly. Well, it's legal fun if you want to try it some day.

Right (maybe with some footnotes).

Eh, I've known at least two guys who legally owned machineguns. One was quite rich, and the other was a successful lawyer. Had that discussion with both of them, and more than a few years ago I looked into it a little myself. By the time you bought the gun itself and incurred all the related expenses, there wasn't much of an option for less than $10,000 all in, and the stuff I really wanted was looking more like $25,000+.

We agree 100% but I just can't stand the DA going on tv and asking for a machine gun possession statute to deal with minors who are killing people while committing a dozen other crimes.

I don't remember Hillar supporting constitutional carry. Now he wants a machinegun law that only law abiding people are going to feel obligated to obey? I wish Louisiana shooters would have told him to pound sand.

machineguns are only for rich lawyers, doctors and teenage car theives.

The people who are using these glock switches don't even own the guns they are putting them on. The guns are always stolen and always possessed by someone who is prohibited for multiple reasons.

The ATF is now threatening innocent people with prison for having pistol braces on "SBRs", which they approved and allowed them to market. Yet they won't even prosecute actual criminals committing violence with machineguns?

frick these people and their dumb laws

I'm with you, but you'd be surprised at the amount of ignorant people getting their hands on these switches such as this video:

"Who tf you know got a muzzle on a gen 5 with a gold switch...we got all the colors"

Not sure why YouTube recommended that video but I thought it was pretty absurd, the comments are great. However, this proposed law seems redundant as noted since these criminals can't have the weapon in the first place.

Also, isn't this the same DA that had 24/7 armed security during the Boosie trial?
