Tourney Game: NCAA Top Gun
Posted on 3/14/23 at 11:14 am
Posted on 3/14/23 at 11:14 am
It's the most wonderful week of the year!
Here's the rules:
1. Choose 6 players in the NCAA tournament
2. You can only choose one player per seed line. For instance, if you take Brandon Miller from Bama, you can't take any other player from a 1 seed team..
3. One of your players MUST be from a team seeded 10th or lower
4. You get one point per point scored per player, until they are eliminated.
5. Please list team name after player name, and seed after team name.
6. Picks are due by 9 am PST on Thursday.
My picks:
Jalen Wilson, Kansas (1)
Azuolas Tubelis, Arizona (2)
Trace Jackson-Davis, Indiana (4)
Drew Timme, Gonzaga, (3)
Kendrick Davis, Memphis (8)
Boogie Ellis, USC (10)
I'll update scores after every round, and GFY.

Ohhh-kay. Another wild first two days of the tourney have happened. Thank you to the 7 participants who had the balls to pick some dudes. Here's my first round re-cap:
5 teams chose Brandon Miller. He scored ZERO points in the first round. That doesn't even seem possible. The good news is that Bama won, and it probably won't matter that he put up a bagel in the first round.
Big winners of the day:
The people that took Adama Sanogo of UConn. That tank of a man scored 28 points, and turned a two-point halftime deficit into an 87-63 blowout.
rockchlkjay and Chadaristic took Mike Miles Jr., and goddamn was that a good pick. A 6 seed scoring 26 points and advancing. That be delicious.
bikerack still has all 6 of their players going into the round of 32. Nicely done!
Big Losers of the day:
Me, for starters. I lost Tubelis from Arizona, Davis from Memphis, and Boogie Ellis from USC, who only managed 6 points. Woof
Ole Vaught may have it even worse than me, losing Zach Edey in the first round. I hope Chris Beard can help him avoid singing those Fairliegh Dickinson Blues next year.
Standings after the Round of 64:
Ole Vaught14 112 (3 players left)
Waltteevens 109 (3 players left)
Chadaristic 101 (4 players left)
Rockchlkjayk 97 (5 players left)
bikerack 96 (6 players left)
UnoMe 85 (5 players left)
VADawg 74 (5 players left)
beebefootba 59 (4 players left)

Update after Sweet 16:
bikerack 268 (2 players left)
Rockchlkjay 235 (2 players left)
VADawg 235 (1 player left)
WaltTeevens 216 (1 player left)
UnoMe 214 (1 player left)
Chadaristic 209 (1 player left)
Ole Vaught 208 (1 player left)
beebefoot 194 (2 players left)
Interesting development. Looks like a two horse race between rockchlk and bikerack. All of their players remaining are on different teams, which means it's still very game results dependent. This doesn't happen often, so I'm excited to see what happens in the Elite 8. Best of luck, gentlemen!
EDITED TO ADD MORE GAME RELATED COMMENTS:
The Toppest of the Top Guns so far:
Drew Timme - 85
Adama Sanogo - 70
Jaime Jaquez, Jr - 70 (eliminated)
Keyontae Johnson - 53
Isaiah Wong - 52
Only one of the "Top 5 Guns" has been eliminated.
Isaiah Wong has easily been the best "value" pick, being a 5 seed that has not only scored 52 point, but still remains in the tournament. Good on ya, beebefootballfan!
There are no 1 seeds left in the tournament. Brandon Miller, Zack Edey, and Jalen Wilson are done. Nobody took a player from Houston (Nobody took Marcus Sasser, interestingly enough)
This has been a fun ride so far!

Boy, those upsets really cleaned us out. bikerack would have little to worry about already with the lead he's built (I assumed you are a "he". I'm sorry if you are not ) but the fact that the two players closest to him also only have Adama Sanogo left means they cannot catch up. The only way for bikerack to lose at this point would be for Isaiah Wong to score 74 more points than Sanogo.
Sooo, get the champagne on ice in bikerack's dressing room.
Also, mea culpa to UnoMe. I forgot to include Sanogo's Sweet 16 totals in your previous score. It didn't help matters any, but just wanted full disclosure. I made the adjustment.
