picked this up off the financial ninja blog (a daily read for me). Good stuff, and this is what I am talking about when I warn of financial Armageddon.

Land?

yeah, or gold.

But if it gets REALLY bad, both land and gold will be confiscated by the gov't. There is no way to keep your wealth short of exporting it to a safe haven. Figuring out what that safe haven is would be rather difficult.

If all of those collapses occur as a result of the domino effect triggered by the financial collapse, the land will just be taken by the government or, when anarchy emerges, others. So I would buy guns...a lot of guns.

technically bullets will be more useful.

I mean, 10 guns is great but their use as a barter tool will be limited due to ammo. I think ammo would be a much better tool to barter with, although the exchange of ammo for other goods would be a scary transaction.

I might just kill myself if it gets that bad.

Could it possibly get that bad though? I've seen lots of references to Japan, they were stuck in the shitter for a decade but they didn't go down the drain.

I plan on being raptured before TSHTF. When sis and I are gone, make sure you re-read this post.

Let's hope not.

But think about this, in japan, before the crash, homelessness/poverty were not a real social problem. They took care of their own.

Now poverty and homelessness is a giant problem in japan (nice article in the economist on this two weeks ago). Is that the case in the US? We have millions of people who barely scrape by.

I don't know about ATL, but in denver, we have a homeless problem. we have people begging on pretty much every corner outside of downtown (where its now illegal). Let's say the number of people begging for a living doubles or triples. what is that going to do?

I think the chance of total chaos breaking out is relatively small, but a real enough chance to at least think about what you would do. I don't think buying a little bit of dry goods would hurt, and having some cash on hand. Plus a gun is a must. If you don't own one, I would highly recommend every american going out and buying one.

ATL is regularly ranked as one of the most unfriendly cities to the homeless or something like that, I think it's because they kick them out of the parks at night. There are still plenty of them around.

There are only so many GTFO charity dollars to go around. If TV and movies have taught me anything they'll be rounded up and housed refugee camp style.

I don't own one and based on my bad aim displayed as a cub scout(I wasn't a scout very long ), I probably shouldn't own one, but I see your point.

Make me get a bunch of rolls of pennies so I can toss a few out the window of my limousine and make these bastards back off so I can get through. I've got a cocktail party to attend and I'm in a damn hurry.

I think a variety of guns is essential. Handgun for defense plus and rifle and shotgun for shooting game/trespassers.

Great, now you've got me thinking of ordering heirloom seeds again.

I don't think it will be quite this bad, but it's going to be a hell of a lot worse then most people think over the next 3-5 yrs.

I truly hope this is the case.

Yes. We are going definitely see some civil unrest along with massive gov't intervention into the economy. If you can hang onto your job and it pays well, you will be set for life in 5 years (if you play your cards right).

Change (not to align with Obama) is always an opportunity! Take advantage of it. Chaos is good if you can keep a steady hand and know your plays well.

honestly, when you think about how quickly areas can turn to chaos just from a hurricane, just imagine what this could do

Well one thing's for sure...

You don't want to be listening to the talking heads on CNBC, CNN, and Fox.

Why you ask?

Here's a great example: Peter Schiff appears on the aforementioned networks in 2006. Watch what he says and how their expers react. Its rich.

LINK

You will laugh if you don't cry. Watch the experts tell Schiff he is crazy, DOW 16000, housing continue to increase 10% per year, and that buying financial stocks is a great idea. Makes Cramer look like a whiz.

Guns (and lots of ammo while you can still get it), gold (and silver), and grub among other things.

Not for investment gains. But for security. Like fire insurance. IE you hope you never need it but you certainly wouldn't want to get caught without it if your house burned down.

What lots of folks spend on a home entertainment system or fancy rims for their truck would buy a real nice "insurance package".

And for those that would kill themselves in the event of a collapse (which to me seems all but inevitable), please go right ahead.

It will leave more resources for those of us with the knowledge, mindset, preparations, and cajones to press on.

Because I have kids I plan on pressing on at all costs. I'll make damn sure they've got something to eat, something to drink, and a warm, dry place to live. And that I can provide those things without a J-I-T grocery store, electricity, or stealing from my neighbors. If you can't do that, then you have your work cut out for you.

I'll let you all figure out how that can be accomplished. TigerDeacon is on the right track IMHO.

Until the angry mob finds out about you and takes all your possessions.
