Bunch of kids, dog, lots of use, hate to mow, full sun, good drainage….any suggestions? Right now it’s almost all weeds/crabgrass. It’s supposed to be centipede, which I hate bc I can’t spray it with post emergent crab grass killer.

Trying to decide between zoysia and Bermuda? Any suggestions? Is there a particular variety of either of those grasses that are much better than the others?

If you don’t want to mow Bermuda is definitely not for you.

I’d go Zoysia given what you’ve discussed as st Aug can be a pain in the arse for a variety of other reasons.

As far as varieties a lot depends on things like watering options, how much sunlight itll get but mostly what kind of sod you can source in your area.

Tifdwarf and spray it with a growth regulator.

Who’d you order from (assuming you’re in the BR area)? Cost for the sod itself? Best price I’ve found for zoysia is $280 per pallet.

I had a contractor do it. He had to haul off a pile of old mulch from a live oak that we lost in the ice storm. Then he added turf mix and graded the yard out then laid the sod. It was probably closer to 5 pallets. Cost $3k for everything.

You can spray sethoxydim or quinclorac

I put in just shy of 20 pallets of Zoysia from Woerner in my back yard. My front yard is still centipede and the front gets cut every other time I mow the back.

That is to say the zoysia grows twice as much as the centipede. It is luxurious though!

A bag of winter rye $50 for Oct-nov

&

A bag of preemergent $50. Feb for the crab grass.

Just another option to consider. I enjoy my yard more in the winter months.

Wow…how have I not heard of this before. I’ve been hating my life over this crab grass and Bahia grass bc I didn’t think there was anything that was centipede safe that would kill them.

I’ll give this a try this summer and reconsider resodding.

For the bahai you can spray celsius….it will stunt it. MSM will kill it but unless you are REALLY careful with measurements it can smoke your centipede too.
