These 3 opponents are not official

This is all PREDICTIONS. Nothing official yet. If there is enough push back from LSU, could we get Florida instead of A&M? It makes absolutely no sense for OU to get Florida instead of A&M.
The only explanation I can see is that A&M behind the scenes is bitching already about potentially having Texas and OU as permanents. They think they’re too good to revert to playing both of them yearly and believe LSU is an important series. bullshite, to LSU the Florida series matters way more.
LSU has played Florida 69 times In conference (series tied 33-33) compared to playing A&M only 11 times in conference (LSU leads series 8-3). Outside of the Mississippi schools and Bama, Florida is the opponent that LSU has the most history with.

Beating Florida is one of the best feelings a season can have. One that I will miss.
I definitely would much rather play Florida than continue forcing a rivalry with those weirdos.

Hell I’d even rather keep the Mississippi State series over A&M. We’ve played them the most out of all SEC teams. 89 times. Ole Miss is 88 times.

Number of conference meetings is a meaningless distinction. LSU has played A&M 61 times, which is very close to Florida. It would be more had the original conference expansion not ended the A&M annual series. A&M and Oklahoma have only met 31 times. That is not even close to being a legitimate rivalry.

Now that Saban has cried about potentially having UT, AU and LSU the SEC will accommodate him. His interview the other day is his way of flexing his muscle. The only permanent I see us keeping is Ole Miss and I have no idea who the other 2 would be. That’s just my 2 cents

LSU was never going to get both Mississippi schools as permanent opponents. The top half programs are all getting 2 top half programs as permanent opponents.

Agree about OU UF not making much sense but we used to play A&M every year. We’re neighboring states and maybe the closest SEC team geographically. Hard to say A&M shouldn’t be an LSU permanent.

This is not something the conference office gets to unilaterally decide. It has to be voted on by the member schools. One aspect that is likely to be maintained in any arrangement is a pairing of the top 6 programs in the conference. That’s Georgia-Florida, Oklahoma-Texas, and LSU-Alabama. Each of those 6 will draw one other top half program. For Bama, that’s Auburn. If Alabama then thinks Tennessee is borderline top half, then they need to be willing to surrender that rivalry to get an easier slate. They don’t get to avoid the other top 6 programs just because they claim Auburn and Tennessee as rivals. LSU doesn’t get to hold onto both Mississippi schools for much the same reason. LSU has played Miss St 116 times. Alabama has played Tennessee 104 times. Why is one more important than the other?

It wasn’t the SEC expansion that ended it, it was the SWC being dissolved into the Big12. We played them every season from 86-95. 96 is when the Big12 was expanded.

But the two fan bases interact way more than Florida and Oklahoma. This has to do with A&M thinking they’re above playing a former conference opponent. Why do you think they shot down the Missouri series after only playing it one year?

Uh, no
Miss State 303 miles
Ole Miss 334.5 miles
Alabama 348.7 miles
A & M 360 miles

It was the combination of the two expansions that created the environment in which both schools were willing to end the contract.

I, too, would rather UF over A&M.
Bama, UF, Ole Mrs.

We don’t need A&M to benefit from recruiting Texas. We need Florida to benefit recruiting Florida.
Many great Texas athletes will choose LSU over A&M in a heartbeat.

Oklahoma not getting Arkansas makes no sense. They are very close

We don't actually know who is getting whom yet.
Edit but OU is closest to
Arkansas 240 miles
A&M 356 miles
Texas 369 miles

TAMU just is more favorable imo bc LSU has a ton of alumni in that part of Texas.

That is the best argument for this series I have heard. Not many others make sense to me.
